White people who want to be cool. I find it ironic.

@judasnixon: it is a ridiculously over used term. To me it used to be synonymous with scenester or poseur, but now it seems you can't prefer anything outside of the mainstream without being called one. Which is properly stupid, why can't you just like what you like? O_O

An overused term people throw onto anyone they don't like.

@judasnixon: okey... question number 2. why did you say that twice? XD

In my understanding hipsters are into obscure things not because they necessarily like them or enjoy them but because they are obscure. All homeless people are hipsters who think the whole living in a house bit is to mainstream.

Hipster is someone who was Hip before the rest population got hip. You listened to Electro before 2007. You watched Breaking Bad before 2010. You know, stuff like that.

Annoying people who live near me in LA. They have invaded my childhood park and I wish there was a hipster go away spray in batman belt that I could borrow.

Go to Cracked and they have a whole page devoted to what a hipster is

The entire cast of Portlandia and anyone who works on Adventure time or Puppycat.

To be honest, it's becoming far too mainstream.

Hipster is someone who was into something before it became trendy.

@m3th: So...then why is it a bad thing?

#31 Posted by M3th (2042 posts) - - Show Bio

@wolfrazer: Because many people view it to be childish to want to express or share that you watched/listened/cared for something before it was popular.

It's also about the attitudes some hipsters'll tend to have IMO.

"You don't really appreciate <insert anything here - band, TV show, movie>, you haven't liked it since before it came out. I have. Therefore I am a superior human to you."

^Slightly exaggerated, but that's the stereotype.

Informative.

#34 Edited by longbowhunter (6785 posts) - - Show Bio

@judasnixon: That's a pretty interesting observation. Because no one ever claims to be a hipster. It's always just a term someone uses to describe someone else.

#35 Posted by Ace20XD6 (235 posts) - - Show Bio

My definition is a person who likes what's not mainstream or popular because they think they'll be cool if they're always part of the counter culture and will change what they like once that counter culture becomes mainstream or bitch how they are superior for liking <insert anything> back when it was part of said counter culture.
