Do you think it is bad or good?

#2 Posted by ShadowX (1207 posts) - - Show Bio

Love who you love. And if in the end everybody is kowledgable and okay with the situation then I see no problem in it. I'm currentlly in a long distance relationship with a polyamorus woman, and we have agreed that If i wanted to see other people as well, and try out the life style then i can as long as we both keep an open and honest discussion on our relationships. The key in polyamoury ir polygamy is in fact trust and love just like any other relationship.

Not for Me, but It doesn't seem bad

They should have the right to marry as long as we're discussing consenting adults.

I bet those who practice it have lots of gnarly sex.

#6 Posted by joshmightbe (24761 posts) - - Show Bio

As long as all the people involved are adults going into it with informed consent then I have no problem with it.

Polyamory + legal contract. Marriage as a whole is an outdated construct that needs to be reevaluated on a judicial level. But then, so do a great many legal considerations.

@glitch_spawn: @knightrise: Well based off the shows about Polygamist it seems like the women in the relationship really are not into that and for the most part just schedule when the guy can be with them only .

Consenting adults. As long as that's in play, then fine but when you have communes which support under-age "sister-wives" who collect welfare because of the children born without stated paternity (thereby avoiding child support payments) then that's going to be a problem.

Polygamy brings with it a need for restructuring marriage laws -- alimony, palimony -- it can get real ugly and I suspect not too many men (or women) will be very interested in taking on multiple spouses when it could potentially mean having to support them should they get divorced.

Monogamy all the way, unless of course your "Y".

A lack of commitment, whether sexual or not, is simply a sign of not really knowing what you want. I'd rather leave acting on impulses to children.

so polygamy is ok for the underage ? :p

#24 Posted by PartialSanity (433 posts) - - Show Bio

@warlock360: Whether it is okay or not is purely philosophical. The implication there was that a lack of impulse control is closely tied with immaturity and while not exclusive to children, it is usually something that's found on them. I suppose I should've clarified that my thoughts on polygamy is that it is a sign of immaturity.

That said, I'm sure there's some chemical imbalances within the brain that can lead to a lack of impulse control, so I can't really put everyone in the same boat.

Which is why I only drink pepsi, eat hotdogs for breafast; lunch; and dinner, and have been wearing the same shirt for the last 19 years. :D

It's a relationship between consenting adults. Don't care what you do, quite frankly.

@jairamganpat: You should probably go get checked. No one should ever commit to just one plate, plenty of nutrients needed to be healthy would be lost unless its the most balanced plate ever, which a hot dog isn't. I can respect the decision of wearing the same shirt for 19 years, as it must take a lot of courage given today's society. I am intrigued however as to how you've managed to evade discoloring and standard wear and tear.

sigh, 'tis a hard life for some. At least you have porn... and prostitutes.

I really don't think that what someone wants to do sexually or relationship-wise is any of my business. However, if you are into kids, that's a different story. Don't think I'm defending that gross stuff. If both parties are of age, and are consenting, I don't have a problem with it. Polygamy does, however, have a reputation in America at least of also being associated with cult-like mentalities, under-age brides, and all around abuse. If there is a way to completely avoid that, everyone consents, and noone is being abused, I don't really think it's any of my business. It's not going to be my lifestyle, but I have no place to push my lifestyle on others.
