Mine are:

10. The Lion King- this movie had it all. It reminds me of "animal farm" a little bit

9. Braveheart- "FRREEEEEEDDDOOOOOOMMMMMMM" what more can I say?

8. Express, the Ernie Davis story-tough to choose between this and "the help"

7. Remember The Titans- the single greatest sports film

Ever. Quote me.

6. The Green Mile- a masterpiece

5. A Few Good Men- a movie filled to the brim with incredible acting

4. Glory- a fight for freedom that ends in tragedy....more historically accurate than you thought right?

3. Saving Private Ryan- it will make you laugh make you cry and it has arguably the single best scene in cinema history

2. Forrest Gump- best Tom Hanks performance in a film that only Tom Hanks could pull off

And the number one best movie of all time ( at least IMO :D)

1. The God Father- a group of people with the singular goal of telling the story of an italian immigrant and his family. The most recognized performance ever to hit the big screen by the beat actor in American history. And the most iconic first 3 words of any movie "I believe in America."

So that's my list. Tell me what you think and share yours

@sog7dc:

Part of Remember the Titans was filmed in my town, so it's always playing somewhere. I can't however, say that I've ever actually watched it through all at once. Kind of weird, when I think about it... But yeah, all good movies in your list. I don't see how Lion King is like Animal Farm, though, other than the fact it has animals... I know it's a lot like Hamlet, but Animal Farm is about the Russian Revolution. Would you mind saying how they're similar? I'm actually pretty curious.

@dabee: In my mind it draws similarities because it's at some level a political story with a deeper meaning wing told by animals. A stretch I know but still it lingers in my mind

  • La Haine (1995)
  • Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels (1998)
  • The Godfather (1972)
  • Cidade De Deus (2002)
  • Fight Club (1999)
  • Reservoir Dogs (1992)
  • Casablanca (1942)
  • Malcolm X (1992)
  • He Got Game (1998)
  • Snatch (2000)

I'm big on gangster movies. No particular order, although La Haine is probably my favorite movie, excellent black & white take on the Parisian ghetto during the 90's riots there. Highly recommend you watch it, even if you don't speak or understand french (use subtitles).

EDIT: How could i forget The Warriors? Easily as good as any of these films above. Brilliant soundtrack.

1. Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (such a perfect and I mean perfect adventure story. Epic Locations, memorable tombs, NAZIIIIS, and Harrison Ford being a charming badass)

2. Star Wars Empire Strikes Back (When you think of Star Wars you think about Cloud City, Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Hoth, Boba Fett and Darth Vader all of which are in abundance in this movie :D)

3. Lord of the Rings Fellowship of the Ring (It felt the most fantasy for me and had my favorite location Khazad-dûm)

4. Star Wars A New Hope (For me it is probably my favorite of the Star Wars and is really interchangeable with Empire Strikes Back)

5. Princess Mononoke (best Miyazaki film and a truly epic story. Loved Hashitaka and the rich vibrant world it creates with spirits as large as mountains and townspeople trying to kill Gods.)

6. Iron Giant (My childhood favorite. What really sets this apart from other kid movies is the feels o man the FEELS :'( this movie still makes me cry)

7. Saving Private Ryan (To me it is the best Tom Hanks movie and the best war movie of all time)

8. Toy Story 2 (My favorite Pixar movie with Ratatouille that automatically puts it on the list)

9. Back to the Future (Love the comedy in this movie and the situation of it all)

10. True Grit (John Wayne version>>>>> new version, John Wayne is a much more fun and charming person than Jeff Bridges)

@sog7dc: I saw it first and I own it that might be why I like it more. It really depends what you like, I enjoy the humor and more lightheartedness of the John Wayne film... Also John Wayne's Rooster Cogburn performance is better and so is Kim Darby's Mattie Ross(I didn't like how in the new one she is such a hardass and that ending was not what I prefer) Glen Campbell also makes the soundtrack but he doesn't get as much screen time as La Boeuf in the new one, but Cogburn gets more character development in the old one.

I would recommend it to anyone because I think it is the greatest western of all time :)

1) The Wolfman (2010)~Fantastic performances, escpescially from Del Toro and Hopkins, really deep themes about societies prejudices, family, the civilized and natural world and the beast within, and an ending that had me bursting in tears

2) Django Unchained~"I like the way you die boy!" Pure condensed fun while still being pretty smart. And Samuel L Jackson was cheated out of an Oscar.

3) (REC)~Scariest movie ever made, with a fantastic twist near the end that makes it even more twisted

4) Felidae~I wish they would make more animated films like this. Smart, disturbing, well dubbed, well animated and frightening...And it's all about cats. :)

5) Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the SIth~The best sci-fi film ever made IMO. The closest thing to Shakespeare in space.

6) One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest~Really great, memorable characters, great themes and messages about society and how people can change, and another tearjerker of an ending.

7) The Blair Witch Project~I watched this after all the hype had died, and I was still in tears of horror and terror. A great movie.

8) Unbreakable~Another performance where Samuel L Jackson should've won an Oscar. Great performances, emotional scenes, great characters. Brilliant.

9) Titanic~Shut up...I liked it.

10) Monsters Inc~The best Pixar movie IMO.

MY TOP 10 movies? Hard to say. There are dozens I have watched literally dozens of times. But I will give it a shot. And just so you know this will probably date me to a certain degree--. In no particular order--

The Outlaw Josey Wales

The Magnificent Seven

Cool Hand Luke

Planet of the Apes (and before you ask--there is only one--)

The Alamo (John Wayne version)

Saving Private Ryan

Apocalypse Now

Full Metal Jacket

Seven

The Usual Suspects

Most of these are not only good movies but actually have a secondary meaning. I also am a big Cold War movie type of guy so I didn't list anything involved with American and Russian cold war tactics (think Ice Station Zebra)

Without thinking right off the top of my head my favorite movie of all time is undoubtedly Black Hawk Down. It'd take some thought for the other 9.
