If the kids are doing chores than the parents are employers and the kids are employees. It is the employers job to pay the employees

Some might argue that kids should do chores without allowances because it's something they SHOULD do.

I was spoiled. The deal with my parents was that I could get a few things I want so long as I focused on my studies. It worked and I've out performed my cousins in school (the majority of which where on the chores for cash system) but in some areas they are more experienced then me. Both systems have their flaws but neither is necessarily a bad method of parenting when done correctly.

I had a strict childhood, and I believe it is the right thing to do. Spoiling your children is much worse then giving out military discipline.

I've had an allowance. All I have to say is that you work hard and save. As for spoiling brats.........it is all the parent's fault.

A large majority of this generation of kids is spoiled. Kids between the age of 12 and 19 cringe at any phone that can't outperform a supercomputer.
