I consider Fairy Tail a good starter anime, its not a great show but its good enough to pass some time, its got relatively short arcs so its not terribly time consuming, its got simple plots and it will get you used to every anime cliche' there is. Plus its just filled with fan servicey boob and butt shots which as with the other anime cliche's you're just gonna have to get used to. Or DBZ because damn near every other anime is ripping it off at least a little . And before anyone starts whining about that last line, it still counts as a rip off even if they did it better than the original.
What you mean every other anime that are part of a single sub-genre of a single demographic from like nearly 10 years ago. DBZ effects on the medium is utterly overestimated.
@thatguywithheadphones: Okay then most action anime not featuring mechs rips off DBZ a little, for instance, Naruto, Luffy, Natsu and Gon from Hunter X Hunter are all basically Goku, spiky haired, gifted idiots who somehow make friends where ever they go despite causing almost as many problems as they solve.
@eisenfauste: Dare to be different lol.
@ostyo: :)
Ugh, I hate threads like this, they honestly just turn into who can name the most of their favorites. @pr0metheus can I get some exmple of stuff you're normally into?
Comic Wise? Usually more serious/gritty/dark stuff. I don't mind gore and unnecessary violence (One of my favorite comic series is The Crossed). I also prefer realism (I mean, I don't really expect much from Anime/Manga) and street level type of comics. Idk, I just don't find someone like Superman who can do anything interesting.
@pr0metheus: all those things that you mentioned right now scream out one anime : Berserk. Check that out.

Naruto isn't Goku at all. It's like saying Goku is Superman just because they have certain similarities. I mean, if you're gonna describe characters in 10 words or so, you can generalise a lot of characters that way.

There are many but the following will give you a good idea about anime/manga and how interesting it can be as a medium :)
This list is the way to go, all it's missing is Fate Zero, Fate stay night Unlimted Blade works, Kurokami, Future Diaries and a few others and by MAR do you mean Marchen awakens Romance?

Fate/Zero, Fate/stay night and Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works are awesome, and I agree with everything else :) There`s also Samurai Champloo, Appleseed, Sengoku Basura, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Soul Eater, D. Gray-man, Pandora Hearts, The Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok, Lupin III and etc.
Yep, MAR is a really unique series IMO.

It is, I remember watching and loving it when it was on Toonami but whenever I find the anime online the voice synching is off
Essentially, so why read the manga when you can just watch the same story but with motion, voice, and great music?

Do people even OP or even read the title? In what world is kill la kill a good anime to get started? That's like recommending punchline or panty and stocking lol.
I still stand by my choices, One Punch Man(dumb fun) Lupin 3(fun with sprinkle of grittiness and a darker tone in the most recent), Devilman(dark and nature) and Black Jack(because it's black jack).
