@OverLordArhas: A GOD POTATO
Jesus definitely existed and is real. I don't even know how people question that. He's a historical figure, and if I'm not mistaken our system of years is based on his birth and death? Right? But no he wasn't white.
We can't get history correct from 50 years ago, so there's no guarantee that anything written about him is accurate, or even real.
@OverLordArhas: A GOD POTATO
How do you cook a GOD POTATO?
@willpayton: I definitely agree that he could not have been white. It's preposterous to think that the depiction of Jesus today isn't based on humanity's own perspectives of what they wanted Jesus to look like. The climate and area where Jesus was said to have lived definitely means that he wouldn't have been white. My question was in regards to his historical accuracy which is what you've answered perfectly well too. I'll look into some of this evidence myself. Thanks for the reply Will.

Near the beginning the Bible historian (the lady with the last name I cant pronounce) says that there's very little in the Bible that's historically accurate, although as she claims most historians would agree that a person named Jesus did exist.
To me it's really irrelevant whether a person named Jeshua did exist, because it seems pretty obvious that the person described in the Bible never existed. That person is an amalgam of previous god myths with some miracles and other stories thrown in for good measure. Dr Richard Carrier in his lectures does a good job of talking about the religious context during which these myths about Jesus arose. Basically, it was just one of many such cults that came and went at the time in that region.
@willpayton: Cool, this is from the BBC's Big Question show. Been watching that a bit now I have free time to spare. I'd also heard that the Jesus in the Bible was basically cobbled together myths and stories of various different people so that dampens the credibility of Jesus actually existing as stated in the Bible. Thanks for the video!

Exactly. Some people today believe that Elvis is still alive, that Kennedy was killed by multiple gunmen, and that aliens landed in Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947. Hell, many people believe in a religion that was created by a sci-fi author in the 1950's. Just think about that. If you can get thousands or millions of people to believe in some b.s. that was created less than 70 years ago, then imagine what will happen once that belief system has been around 2,000 years.

@willpayton: OK now I have two questions, what evidence would be necessary to prove hes real, and is there any proof he wasn't real? I thought it was a historical fact he was real.
@sc: Sorry force of habit.
@xlr87t3: Well, here's one thing for sure, he looked less like Qui Gon Jinn and more like Quinlan Vos.
@generator2000: Wow, it looks like Quinlan has the hottest girlfriend in the Star Wars universe. I bet it's because of his dreads. ;)

It depends on what you mean by "prove". If you mean to show with 0 doubt, then I dont think that's possible at all. If you mean to show with enough evidence so that we can be reasonably sure that he existed.. I'd say we need a bit more evidence, like for example some historical accounts by trustworthy people from his own time. Either people who saw him themselves, or historians who heard reliable stories at the time. Stories written 70 years after his death are not especially reliable to me.
Is it a "historical fact" that Jesus existed... well, I dont think it is. Sure, most historians might believe that he probably did exist, but that doesnt make it a fact. Also, it depends on who you're talking about. If you mean the Jesus of the Bible who performed miracles and was resurrected and all that... all of a sudden I'd imagine that most of those historians would agree that such a person never existed.
To me it's irrelevant because if a person named Jeshua existed and the later stories are just based on him... we really cant say much about him at all. All of the supernatural stuff attributed to him is false, and I'd imagine a good amount of the non-supernatural stuff as well. How can you tell what was real and what wasnt? And if you cant tell, why even bother at all?
