was i in the wrong?

at college today this girl passed a note around the table to me (forgot to mention) because she wanted a homework question for another lesson. but before the note got to me a guy in my class wrote 'will you go out with me' and put her name, as a joke i put no and he gave the note back to the girl and she looked all sad for the whole lesson, she was silent and didn't even look at me.

This was in college?

She didn't think is was funny and it's easy to understand why.

The nuances of humor are often lost using the written word.

You're not really wrong, but you gotta remember (for next time) that there are many different ways to interpret the exact same written words.

You were only in the wrong if you didn't scalp the guy afterwards.
