@batwatch: turkey is absolutely in bed with isis. Their leader is one step above an extreme islamist and they buy massive amounts of oil from isis as well as providing Intel

Turkey is a scum isis loving country that needs to be kicked out of nato.

Why is everyone still brainwashed into thinking russia is some great evil. They are fighting isis and moderate(al qaeda) groups with no apologies. Us funds terrorists, I mean our rockets shot down the helicopter and turkey is just scum fully funding isis and letting them operate there

@jonny_anonymous: Jonny, let's ask Erdogan himself what he is thinking about that, shall we?

Erdogan criticized Syria harshly on Tuesday for shooting down the Turkish fighter jet, saying: "Even if the plane was in their airspace for a few seconds, that is no excuse to attack." According to turkish version plane was in turkish airspace... for a few seconds. 17 to be precise.

@batwatch:Well, from what i heard there are two versions about warnings: that the warnings were like "you are approaching Turkey border, change course", not "you are in turkish airspace" or there was no warnings at all. I belive in second version.

I wonder what Putin will do.

For now Putin ceased all militray contacts with Turkey. Also from this moment all bombers will fly to targets only with fighter jets escort and missle cruiser is heading to coast of Latakia with permission to shot down any potential threats to russian aviation. Or he is already here? Not sure about that part.

@rubear: I never said they were right or wrong, I just said they shouldn't be surprised.

Apparently they did it because they told Russia to stop attacking ISIS LOL.

Turkey gets a lot of their black market oil from ISIS. Must be bad for business. F*ck 'em.

Update: looks like they rescued the other pilot

Yes, thanks to syrian special forces that found him in forest where he was hiding from jihaddists.
By the way after he sended signal that he is alive someone intercepted it and told all to jihaddists so he was forced to constantly change position. I wonder who this "someone" could be. Most likely some not-so-little bird.

@rubear:

Well, I suppose we can choose to believe whatever we want, but it seems to me that it would be better to wait for the evidence to be collected and base our judgement on that rather than simply picking a side from the getgo.

@darthdeadpool:

I still haven't seen a source for your claims about Turkey being in bed with ISIS.

@batwatch: Claims mean nothing in world politics. Actions speak far louder than words or claims. The reality is Turkey has barely lifted a finger to fight them while many in the middle east see them as being accomplices. Among many reasons why: they have a few shared enemies in Syria that are currently fighting isis: the Kurds and Assad. Also, they are one of the last real allies Obama has in the region and we all know that the us gov't wants Assad out of power for a number of reasons as does Turkey. Lastly, we just saw them shoot down a Russian fighter which at most skirted its airspace when we all know Russia is fighting isis right now. This was likely just to try and get all of nato to condemn Russia's military intervention in the region. Russia is also actively bombing the non isis anti Assad groups in Syria which Turkey does outright support with arms which aren't much better than isis.

@darthdeadpool:

Thanks for the link.

I now believe your comments were based on something. Taking the article at face value, it sounds to me like Turkey was betting that Islamic State would take out Assad for them, a rival country, but hoping the movement would stay localized to Syria. It could be that Turkey actually backs IS; I'm sure some in the country do, but I suspect that most in power in Turkey would not choose to lose their own power to a group of radicals who will tear down the Turkish system. Looks to me like they were playing with fire and got burned.

@batwatch: Here is another interesting article from Guardian written by former head of Israel’s National Security Council.
http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/dec/01/russia-fighting-isis-moscow-turkey#comments

About a year before that meeting with the Russian, I met a senior Turkish official. That was at a time when relations between Jerusalem and Ankara were excellent. At that meeting, the Turkish official spoke openly about his country’s world view. “We know that we cannot get back the lands that were under the control of the Ottoman empire before 1917,” he said, “but do not make the mistake of thinking that the borders that were dictated to us at the end of the first world war by the victorious countries – mainly the UK and France – are acceptable to us. Turkey will find a way to return to its natural borders in the south – the line between Mosul in Iraq and Homs in Syria. That is our natural aspiration and it is justified because of the large Turkmen presence in that region.”

This part is corresponding with your view about turkish involvment.
