In no exact order my list would be, Mugen, Guts, Itachi Uchiha, Trafalgar Law and Ippo Makunouchi

Honorable mentions would be Jiraiya Sensei, TK(Angel Beats), Takamura, Kurono Kei, and Greed

I'd like to see your list! This was pretty hard for me.

I thought I'd have a crack at this, and it was surprisingly difficult...

1) Joseph Joestar.

2) Kamina

3) Gilgamesh

4) Kikumaru Eiji

5) Kazuya Hiramaru

These are personal favourites and in all honesty there are much better characters out there; these are just the ones I had the most fun watching.

@pwok21: I don't recognize the bottom two but I can definitely agree Joseph and Kamina are good characters. TTGL is one of my favorite animes, and yeah this is more difficult than it sounds.

I still don't get why anime and manga threads get put in off-topic. They are comics after all. The OP is going to list ten we might as well list ten if we can right? When it comes to anime there's a fine line between someone who is actually well characterized and who is just our personal badass power fantasy. Probably a little of both for everyone's list. In sort of chronological order:

Yabuki Joe - Ashita No Joe

Lupin III - Lupin III

Oscar Francois de Jarjayes - Rose Of Versailles

Starscream - Transformers

Joseph Joestar - Jojo's Bizarre Adventure

Vegeta - Dragon Ball Z

Takamura Mamoru - Hajime No Ippo

Meier Link - Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust

Franky - One Piece

Sakata Gintoki - Gintama

I also like Obito.

I think many people who like him are tepid when it comes to their feelings for the character, simply because he often gets a bad rap for his questionable motives. But I think his questionable motives are part of what makes him a great fictional character.

EDIT: In other words, he's easy to relate to because all of us sometimes make really stupid choices based on little more than emotion or what we think is true about our circumstance and the world around us. He's a flawed character... and those are usually the best ones.

Respect that opinion, but i personally like my villains to have stronger motives and a more stable emotional state. I'd have to agree that he's my least favorite villain in the series.

I respect your opinion as well. :)

Although, I do believe Obito's emotional state (in the present sense) has been quite stable, actually. He seems to have completely committed himself to his path and hasn't really vacillated from what I have seen. It seems like his motives are really what people strongly dislike, in my opinion. And again, I can live with flawed motive. It just makes him more human, IMO.

Of course, now he's a train wreck... what with the Ten-tails inside him.
