What are your thoughts on this whole boycotting of the Oscars for lack of diversity? Ridiculous, or legit?
Thoughts on the Oscar Boycott Talk?
Its just how the cards played out this year. People are acting like its some conspiracy, and that seems a tad bit far fetched, considering the history of the award in question. It's the Oscars, they nominate artsy fartsy films usually.
Pretty ridiculous and stupid. Just because a black person wasn't nominated for an actor category or whatever, doesn't mean the Oscars are racist. Minorities have won best director for the past three years straight. Ang Lee(Asian), Alfonso Caurón(Mexican), and Alejandro Inarritu(also Mexican) were the winners. Twelve Years a Slave directed by a black man, Steve McQueen won best picture two years ago and Birdman, directed by Alejandro Inarritu won best picture last year.
Jada Pinkett just seems salty and bitter that Will didn't get nominated. Many people get snubbed year after year. That's just the way it is. I thought Idris Elba earned a best actor nominee for Beasts of No Nation, but he didn't get it. Oh well. I'm not going to cry racism.
Anyone who doesn't think Hollywood is inherently prejudice is a fool. I'd go on a rant but I can't be asked at this time of night.
Nonsense. Rather it's legit or not, we have far more important things to worry about in the world than some stupid award.

No kidding. It's such a first-world problem.
@ryagan: *thumbs up*
Dat sarcasm. I like you.
@ryagan: And awesomeness. :P
@dboyrules2011: Thank you, sir. I have to make up for being gay somehow.
(That's a joke--don't worry. I'm not being serious. People always act so horrified when I make that joke.)
@ryagan: You're welcome. :p
Oh I'm aware that you were joking, though it's always good to clarify just to make sure. Haha.
Why is it even called the Oscars though? Why can't we change it up and name the award with a traditional black name? Like uh.. Jamal, or Shaq or Tiger or Rock? Also why does this award look like a man? Look, I don't want to sound like a SJW, but why not call the awards the Oprahs instead and make the stature look like her?
@sc: Really? A one-percenter?
@black_wreath: A one-percenter in hotness. The black cocoa that is Oprah, mmn mmn.
@sc: Black cocoa needs white marshmallows and vice versa. My world peace mantra.
@ryagan: racism isn't a first world problem.
@leo-343: Blame certain for being overly sensitive, people don't kick up a fuss if a white guy plays certain roles that the oscars hand out rewards for. You would be fooling yourself to think you wouldn't get sh*t for casting a black person as someone with a mental disability.
It's why Cyclops got the interesting storylines and Storm didn't, writers don't want to take risks with Storm.
@dextersinister: Radio?

?
@dextersinister: Radio?
A film, googled it.
Passage from a review
the film’s racism goes largely unaddressed. (No doubt unintentional, the opening scene of the film would have you believe that a young black man’s life is a train wreck waiting to happen.)
Cast a white guy and suddenly it's not racist. Just proves my point.

Who's the girl in the image? I need it for scientific purposes
The fact that Idris Elba didn't get nominated for Beast of no Nation is ridiculous. I also like how everyone is quick to bring up Twelve Years a Slave. So in other words that's the kind of role it takes to get some recognition.
@leo-343: "Everyone who disagrees with my opinion is a fool but I couldn't be bothered to explain why". No, no. Please do go on a rant. Please tell us everything that is on your mind.
@mrtummytumms: Johnny Depp gave arguably the best performance of his entire career in Black Mass and didn't get nominated. Yet nobody is screaming "racism" in this case.

Well obviously, he's white just like the majority of nominees.
@fuzzylittlerodent: Um, of course no one is crying racism. Do you... not get how racism works?
@jonny_anonymous: Point is, everyone gets snubbed. Depp at least deserved a nomination. Seriously, do you want to tell me that Matt Damon's performance was better? But for some reason, when it's a minority that gets snubbed then it's obviously only because of racism

@full123: sorry, I'm a little bit lost here. Is this a sarcastic comment or did you honestly not get the point of my comment?
@dextersinister: Which X-Men comics are you referring to? Chris Claremont took plenty of risks with Storm, and she was arguably the main character of that 16 year run.
The modern comics are a different story, though...
@fuzzylittlerodent: Depp is not a minority IIRC so of course no one was crying racism there. You basically said "A white person who did a good performance got snubbed and no one said anything about racism, so racism doesn't exist in the Oscars." I don't believe this is an actual issue, but that's just dumb.
@full123: *facepalm*
Black people thinking that black people are the only minority...Hmm
Will should've gotten a nomination but....He was like the only good black actor this year(From the films I have seen, He even deserved a nomination for his role in Focus)
And nobody would care for the oscars in a month until next year's lack of black actors oscars is hosted,,,
