The Return of the Nostalgia Critis

Yup! Doug is returning to the Nostalgia Critic.

I'm glad to see him return. I agree that NC was becoming stale. But perhaps now that he's releasing it every other week, it might be more fresh. Also, I'm intrigued with the idea of removing the cut off date for movies.

... crap. Can a mod edit the title to fix the word "critic?"

You should know mods can't change titles. :P

Also way to sell out Doug, you said you didn't have any more material for NC.

Awesome.

Nella and N-chick were amazing in that.

Mostly Nella.

I forgot. It's rare...

(though in my defense, you can on my site, so I wasn't sure about the coding)

I know he did. But honestly, I didn't like Demo Reel. I wanted to see NC back.

@JediXMan: Demo Reel looks pretty awful.

Although I hope he goes for more team ups now as they were the best NC videos near the end of his run.

I felt like it became a gimmick in the end, honestly. I liked the crossovers prior to that (though Linkara is always awesome, and one of my favorite reviews in the Alone in the Dark review... back before Spoony went crazy).

What do you think of the idea of upping the cut off date? I don't really want him doing "new" movies, but some other movies of the mid / late 00s might not be bad.

He really went downhill..

#10 Posted by Decoy Elite (28581 posts) - 3 months, 18 days ago - Show Bio

@JediXMan: I think that he should cover any movies he can do good commentary for, although older movies would be preferable given it's his entire gimmick.

Didn't he retire? And why is he coming back (not that I have a problem with it)?

What he says: he just needed a break. He has renewed creativity and he missed NC.

What I think: Demo Reel sucked, nobody liked it, and site traffic was going down.

Possibly a combination of the two.

This is the part where I ask sheepishly, what's Nostalgia Critic?

A guy with a pair of glasses that critiques movies from his/our childhood with nitpicking and over-the-top acting that can be considered humorous by some and appalling by others.

Sounds... Weird?

Latest review is up.

It was okay.

I enjoyed it. Not among his best, no, but it was better than some of his reviews - and I think better than the ones he did before he went on hiatus.

I'm hopeful.

@JediXMan: I agree, but I'm still not sold on him having a lot of new material.

It could be the movie. Honestly, when I heard he was going to review the Odd Life of Timothy Green, I thought it would be one of his worse reviews. But he managed to take a rather boring movie and make the commentary entertaining (I admit that I haven't seen the movie entirely. I just remember clips and previews; now that I've seen the review, it seems I'm right in believing that it's a boring movie)

So I'm not going to make a judgement on whether he was right to return or not just yet.

@JediXMan: Yeah, but it wasn't really much. IMO.

I'm not saying it was great. But it at least entertained. And again, I'm willing to take the material he was working with into account on this one. We'll see how it goes.

It's free to watch so I'll still check out his next one.

Meh. While I am surprised it didn't took that long for him to come back, I am so done with TGWTG at this point.

I loved his "war" with the AVGN, but Doug hasn't really made things legitimately humorous since the Lori Prince Live segments back when The Dark Knight came out. And that was canned after two episodes over some crap involving The YouTube police if I remember correctly.
