Ok, so today been reading a lot of late about the stupidest laws, bans etc especially such as singing patriotic songs in schools to sitting on milk cartons apparently being illegal? What the hell? lol. Now they want to ban/outlaw sugary drinks in some places?!

I made this topic to share my rants, opinions on it and to hear everyone elses here!! Feel free to post your rants concerning stupid laws, ones you dislike, and ones that have been considered or offered.

We all know there's a ton of utterly foolish, stupid laws, bans and rules out there. Probably too many to name.

Here I'll list a few I think are really dumb, feel free to post yours!

*Laws that show mercy to anyone regardless of their crime, which I very much disagree with.

*Religion and Politics mixed together

*Police needing a warrant to search your home, ok yet not one to search your car...

*Violent video games banned or illegal in certain countries

*Sugary drinks banned(another one trying to take over first in parts of California and now in New York) really?

*Ideals to alter the constitution for the worse, not better

*Stupid people trying to pass laws disregarding the FCC and banning talk radio due to opposing views

*Sitting on milk cartons lol

*Banning singing patriotic songs in schools

*Banning swords in certain states

* People for Pro-Abortion(want to make it a law)

*Jay walking(to a degree I can get why this is not smart but illegal? what about all the times cars nearly hit people who have the right way?

*Gun bans(I know, debatable but some have it, others don't I still say to this day "guns and weapons don't kill people, people kill people"

*Wrist braced slingshots/banned in certain states, again why? Knives too, ok concealed ones perhaps I can understand but apparently some people and states like MA and NY for example feel Slingshots are as deadly as guns..

*Trying to alter the constitution

*Spitting(ok, my issue with this one is fine health reasons I'm fine and agree. However, why don't they penalize athletes such as Baseball players and football players or when you play ball? Have you seen the amount of times they spit? Dumb, inconsistent law

*Controversial things like gay weddings, having Superman bash America [when that's one key thing that he loves and about the character] in comics. I have no issues with new ideas but I hate political statements in comics. I don't know about other people and readers, but I read them for the characters, not politics. My philosophy on that.

Alright, I'm sure I'll find more to rant about. Feel free to share yours too. Rant on!!!

I think there's a law in Georgia stating that you can't tie a giraffe to a street light. And that you cannot put an ice cream in your back pocket on Sunday. Read that in some Crazy Laws book.

None at all. Makes no sense, honestly. It's a bar. A place where you go to drink something that can kill you. Why not let you smoke something that can kill you while at it?

At the Venom dude, yeah I think it's dumb. They should be separated. Feel free to list your views of dumb laws.

On the bar and smoke gig. I'll respectfully disagree with some folks here on the bar and smoking law. I think only natural for smokers to defend their reasoning for obvious reasons, but what about those who don't smoke or have bad allergies? Or worse, those who have asthma are restricted to bars, certain restaurants because of people who smoke indoors when they can just go outside for a few minutes, asking too much? I think not. If I'm eating I don't want to breath that crap in my lungs it would literally kill me with allergies and kill my appetite. I approve that law as it violates health of others. I shouldn't have to breath that crap in when I'm out to dinner or something. If I want to smoke or breath it in, I'll go to a hookah bar. That being said, I also don't see how cologne or perfume or B.O. is comparable to smoke that actually causes cancer for people around them. Especially since not everyone wears it. B.O. is just slightly inconvenient, (I have a friend who smells lol) but it won't kill you like smoke will.

As for bars and business, well since I live in NYC trust me...they don't lose business. People still go and you go there to have fun and drink(which they do) now if you had to drink outside, that's retarded. But smoke? Why must people smoke indoors when they can just open a door and smoke outdoors for a few. Too much to ask? I approve this law, I think those who really oppose it are merely lazy and/or inconsiderate. My opinion on that, I'm sure few will disagree but that's how I feel. I also live near several bars and each night they all get good business, even the dead days I can walk by and see people always in there.

Granted, a lot of these laws I disagree with but the smoking ban indoors is one I happen to support for health reasons. It's a health violation.

Here are some from California (taken from dumb laws.com).

You may only throw a frisbee at the beach in Los Angeles County, CA with the lifeguard's permission.

It is a misdemeanor to shoot any kind of game from a moving vehicle, unless the target is a whale.

Women may not drive in a house coat.

No vehicle without a driver may exceed 60 miles per hour.

From my home state of Louisiana:

It is illegal to rob a bank and then shoot at the bank teller with a water pistol.

Biting someone with your natural teeth is “simple assault,” while biting someone with your false teeth is “aggravated assault.

It is illegal to gargle in public places.

Stealing an alligator could land a person in jail for up to ten years.

New York:

Citizens may not greet each other by "putting one's thumb to the nose and wiggling the fingers".

A fine of $25 can be levied for flirting.

In Greene, during a concert, it is illegal to eat peanuts and walk backwards on the sidewalks.

In Ocean City, a law from the early 1900's prohibits men from going topless on the Boardwalk. Also, people may not slurp their soup.

It's not the song, really. Just the culture of getting pissed with people confident enough to sing in public but without the ability to back it up. I don't know why that particular song got most of the heat. I personally know some people who got stabbed (fortunately not killed) due to karaokes/videokes... And none of them sang My Way.

Anyway, there are literally hundreds of stupid/bizarre laws in the UK dating from the 15th century that no one has bothered revising. Like the fact it is illegal to enter the Houses of Parliament in a suit of armour.
