i was feeling nostalgic for good vampire stories and good vampire video games so LoK came to mind. anybody here a fan? anybody here knows/remembers it? anybody here has any questions? i may have the answer.
The Legacy of Kain Thread
@inverno: i'm assuming you played it on ps1 right? because i have tried the pc version. it is extremely hard to get to work. the only level i felt that dragged was malek's bastion and moebius' caves.
@i_dont_like_comics: Sorry I actually meant Blood Omen 2
This is how long the levels dragged.
@inverno: man, i remember people going apesh!t when bo2 came out. the story didn't match at all. some still don't understand it to this day. the timeline i mean. but to me it felt really short and lacking substance. needed more lore, more oompf.
I've only played & beaten Blood Omen 2, and Legacy of Kaine: Defiance. But I've also played soul reaver 1 & 2, and the original blood omen. Good games. I also heard there was a mmo?
@grandsymbiote94: nosgoth. it's an online shooty thingy. not into that stuff so know the correct term for it.
@i_dont_like_comics: It's a shooter? Lol. Anyway who's your favorite character? I like Raziel.
@grandsymbiote94: raziel's cool, but i like kain more. he's malicious and honest about it how can i not like him more?! fun fact: the guy that did kain's voice is the same guy that did dr doom's voice in the fox fantastic four show.
@i_dont_like_comics: He also played in the show Charmed as death. I also think I heard his voice somewhere else too. Kaines cool, but I feel like Raziel has better character development.
@oscuro: 2003. that would be lok: defiance.
@grandsymbiote94: i read somewhere the development process for these games. my god it's amazing they got made at all. so many twists, renames, retweeks, stuff getting passed over. it had an incredible writer: amy henning, the writer for uncharted. the story is air tight. any questions about the story?
@dagmar_merrill: have you played them all?
@i_dont_like_comics: I think so but I played them a long time ago. So I may be forgetting some.
@jaken7: at least they completed the story. the games had a rough time being made.
@i_dont_like_comics: There were plenty more stories to be explored in that universe. And no, Nosgoth the MMO is not the way to do it.
:-(
@jaken7: So they're making a new game and it'll be an MMO?
@dagmar_merrill: Ugh!
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nosgoth
@jaken7: "Though once intended for release as part of a single-player project, Legacy of Kain: Dead Sun"
That sounds so much better..
@dagmar_merrill: no. it was about two brothers, one dies and becomes the other's reaver like weapon or something like that. it had a horrible premise.
@dagmar_merrill: I wish they didn't tell us that. It only serves as a twist of the knife now. :/
@dagmar_merrill: no. it was about two brothers, one dies and becomes the other's reaver like weapon or something like that. it had a horrible premise.
I'd rather play that then an MMO, which I don't personally enjoy
@jaken7: @dagmar_merrill: this is the protagonist, a saradin vampire. his body would've hosted the soul of a human and the explored the mysterious elder god. the design is horrible.
@i_dont_like_comics: Okay the design could be better but i stand by what i said.
@dagmar_merrill: it's a discount raziel. so many new things that don't need to be added. how can vampire from a clan that doesn't exist find out things about the elder god when he can't even see him? can't even hurt him. i am happy this never got made. we know enough about the universe. there is nothing left to discover. i don't want someone, that wasn't amy henning, to spell it out to me that the elder god is an ancient creature that lives off souls.

I remember reading (not exactly sure where, though) that as the game progressed his design would've updated or been changeable.
But yes, I am afraid that he, at least here, did look somewhat...generic.
@armiv2: to me legacy of kain is like silent hill. dead but remember and revisited fondly.

I'm hoping it can be resurrected one day. One day but loyally.
@armiv2: if nosgoth is successful, it's dead as we know it. if nosgoth isn't successful, it's dead. either way, the game is rigged.

Those can't possibly be the only two outcomes. I refuse to believe that.
I've never enjoyed a LoK game as much as Soul Reaver, that was the best one for me :)
I swear that game is 80% responsible for shaping my tastes.
@armiv2: Right?? Like I can't even put my finger on it. I played Legacy first but with SR...I don't know if it was the character design, the genius level design (shifting forms and having the whole room twist around on you felt freaking magical), the mythology or what but it is just the one I have enjoyed the most. By quite a large margin!
@armiv2: these games barely got made back in the day when money was plentiful. but nowadays, those are the only 2 options. moebius won.

I think it's just everything. It's just so bloody perfect.
Also it is the first game to make me realize that a game can be more than just a game.
anybody here read the comics? i thought they were pretty good. mostly recaps but good for a game tie-in comic.

Damnation.
@armiv2: Ah I know what you mean! It's more like an experience. The way the different elements of the gameplay combine, the way the story unfolds....ah, it's wonderful, it really is :)
Yeah...man, I need the rest of the games now.
