I will be a Riot Grrrl till the end of my days.
The-admit-you-like-girl-bands thread
The lack of Atomic Kitten here is quite disturbing.
Also Sugarbabes (Original group)
Atomic Kitten? Anyone?
@citizenbane: Be Gone Bane!!!!!!!!
Two people recommending Atomic Kitten on this thread, is still a disturbing lack of Atomic Kitten.
@ragdollpurps: @bumpyboo: Girls....... Don't even get me Started on Brody Dalle. I has suuuuuuch a crush on her. (blushing and heart beating faster)
@x35: Our sisterhood song~ ♥
I CAN'T HEAR YOU OVER THE AWESOME!!! WHAAAAAAAT????
I SAID YOU HAVE A PROBLEM. YOU + PROBLEMS = ALL THE TIME.
@capfanboy: Join us. Become one of us. One of us............................
Does "No Doubt" count? They were pretty awesome back in the '90's.
One Stefani does not a girl-band make.
@capfanboy: Join us. Become one of us. One of us............................
Nooooo.
@capfanboy: Okay, then i can honestly say that i do not like any all girl bands...wait what about "Heart"? I didnt really like them, but they have some nostalgia to their songs.
@nerdork: Ehhh.....
Anyone recommend any good girl bands?
When there is such a thing I'll get in touch.

Wrong. Of course No Doubt counts. ¬_¬

Sure, what kind of music are you into?
@ragdollpurps: It's a band headed by a girl. That's like saying Sublime are simply a boy band. They aren't.
Runaways all day...
I agree with this, but I think the biggest reason they are so popular is because of Joan Jett.
I know its not an all girl band, but right now Halestorm is my favorite band.

Actually I would say Cherie Currie played a part as well.
@capfanboy: Yeahh, but when you make songs like 'Just A Girl', songs from a predominantly female point of view, and your music is geared toward a predominantly female demographic, you kinda are a girl band, whether you aim to be or not. No Doubt certainly aren't very political compared to the bands of the Riot Grrrl movement, but they definitely are a girl band. You don't have to be a girl to like girl bands and there's nothing wrong with being one. I know lots of men who love No Doubt simply because they're a great ska band.
Heart maybe, Paramore definitely not (although they're fcking awesome).
Having a female singer =/= being a girl band.
You say that like being a girl band is a bad thing~
And I would the say the same about Paramore.
@ragdollpurps: Wasn't my intent at all!
I just think that girl bands:groups (Spice Girls, The Veronica's, Destiny's Child) and bands that have a female lead singer (Paramore, No Doubt, Automatic Loveletter) are different things.
One's not inherently better than the other, by any means.
@mercy_: I usually think of bands as things... with people... who play instruments, and call groups like the former by their genre, for instance a female pop group or a female R&B group.
Yes! I admit it! I confess I love this girl band!
And if you know even just a half of these girls then high five! Cause I know what is contained on those hidden folders of yours! :D
@ragdollpurps: Right and I don't think that I said differently?
I interpret 'girl band' as being a band full of girls. As in just girls. Which would exclude bands that are just fronted by females. As they're not girl bands, they're bands that happen to have a girl in them.
Missed your post about No Doubt the first time (on my phone). And coming from it at that angle, I agree with you.
@ragdollpurps: I'm not disputing that No Doubt are a great ska band, they are. I'm just saying that I classify girl bands/groups as groups that have solely women or that women are in the majority in the band. To me, No Doubt are just a Ska-Punk band, not a girl band. I could be wrong (in fact I'd place money that I probably am) but they're not a girl band, at least to me.
i see no mention of The Shangri-Las, ESG, The Tammys , kleenex, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Slant 6, Quix*o*tic, Algebra Suicide, Nina Hagen, Lydia Lunch, Diamanda galas, Kate Bush .....
ESG. just 3 girls from the south bronx.
Nina Hagen. Genius.
I wouldn't necessarily call them girl bands but I love me some Halestorm and In This Moment...they are girl fronted bands but I don't know if I'd call them girl bands
Love Joan Jett. <3
