Koch Brothers are often criticized by liberals for their heavy donations in favor of Republicans so I thought it would be cool to show you guys the All-Time Political Donors from 1989-2014

Note: Percentages may not add up to 100% as money can be given to third party
candidates or outside spending groups and PACs not affiliated with either party.

So when the numbers of donors actually made a difference (i.e. 20 years compiled together before Citizens United took effect)?

Some of these Donors were created recently (Act Blue which is #2 launched in 2004)

That table is a bit much, but yeah, the whole idea that conservatives have all the big donors in their pocket is such a load of crap. Bill Gates, Warren Buffer, Oprah Winfrey and many of the other richest people on the planet and liberal and donate to progressive politicians. It's not like the conservatives are hurting for donors either, but the frequently perpetuated stereotype that the rich donate excusively or majorly to the right is laughable.

@cgoodness: Also, did you hear about this. The 2016 number is probably hype but it's still scary to think about.

@batwatch: When has any serious topic about politics in our country, not been heinously exaggerated? Sooner or later we are just going to have to accept that journalism has become an entertainment industry.

Yeah, pretty much. I always say the news is good as long as you can identify the bias and take everything with several grains of salt.

@batwatch: The trouble with crying wolf to sell papers is that it's over-usage only desensitizes viewers from the importance of the issues.

:) True. They often go hand in hand. Rather than stopping people from contributing to the political process, I suggest removing government's power to shape the markets and thereby remove the rich people's incentive to buy politicians.

@batwatch: While it would be a good idea in theory, the west's interdependence with each other economically would make that an impossibility. Shutting down the borders and becoming self reliant by pulling stakes from other countries and halting exports and imports is no longer an option. Dealing with you and me specifically, free trade agreements between our countries (and Mexico) is a tangled mess as it is.

Unless anyone interested in running for public office has exactly the same amount of money for campaigning, with restrictions placed on media to make it a level playing field. Lots of silly ideas that will never be implemented, haha.
