So my friend's dad named his son "Thor" and although I'm not sure if that was for the actual Norse God or... well the comic book counterpart.
The coolest thing about it is the father's name is Sjodin... pretty close to Odin, right?
Anyways, Thor would be a pretty wicked name but I couldn't imagine naming my kid Spider-Man or Booster Gold... maybe Batman though.
I don't have any plans to name my kids after a comic book character although if it's not a stupid name that'll have the kids laughing at them I don't see a problem with it, especially if that specific character had a big impact on your life (ie. Spider-Man has been there for me to fall back on through a lot of big problems when I needed to escape from reality).
Anyone?
Superhero Baby Names
I am named after a comic book character, although it was completely coincidental since my parents were never into comics. In fact, I'm kind of named after two characters. My first + last name and middle + last name are both the names of comic book characters. I would consider naming a kid after a character, but it would have to be a normal name. Nothing strange or anything that will get them ridiculed when they get older.
Mechanical_Ape is right. If you name your son Kal-El, something is wrong with you. Clark, on the other hand, is a fine homage to the same character. Give the ridiculous names to pets, because they won't be teased mercilessly until adulthood for their parents lacking taste.
@stuamerica:
if i ever have a son im going to name my son Kal-El or kal Kent (maybe even Zod)
if ever i have daughter either Raya, Kara or Laura-El
Remember, your kid has to live with this for at least 18 years and deal with the evil that other kids are. When it comes down to it, the decision is that of you and your significant other. For your future progeny's sake, please use restraint. Other than that plea, I cannot and should not have any effect on others choice of what they name their children.
"
Long live Superman"
Generally, agreed.
"I convinced my wife to name our daughter Lexi after Lex Luthor "
are u serious
@stuamerica:
im still thinking about it. i might just go with augusta
I talked my wife in to letting me make Kal-El our first sons middle name if we have a boy.
My youth minister at my church and his wife liked Smallville so much in the beginning that they named one of their daughters Lana and one of their sons has the middle name Kal-El.
I dont think you can actually name a kid Superman or Kal-El as a first name in the United States can you? I know Nicholas Cage did but was his son born with in the U.S. limits or in another country?
@DEGRAAF:
There are very few laws limiting what you name your child in the U.S. For a short while Grace Slick named her daughter god, lowercased just to prove a point. She later changed it to China. I knew a girl whose parents lived in South Dakota their entire lives, and named her Dakota in spite of the likelihood that she was going to grow up there. She didn't have a problem with it but said that growing up would've preferred something else.
In Germany you cannot give a boy a girl's name or vice versa, and you cannot use surnames for given names. In the States, you are pretty much free to be as mundane or creative (or sadistic, depending on your point of view) as you please. Keep in mind some of the names you see in pro sports or given to celebrity children.
One of my friends named his son Kal-el and the kid's got confidence because he knows he is named after an awesome character. Another friend also named his son Bruce Wayne. I'll be naming my son Shinobi. What's preposterous is to name your kid with absurd ones like Pilot Inspektor or Moon-unit...

Frank Zapa was awsome... He could name his kids whatever he wanted! : ) I used to work with a guy named Moon-Doggie his real name.
I'd like to think I was named after Steve Rogers, but that's wrong by a longshot =P
I do want to name my son Logan. Ya know, assuming I ever have kids.
your wife must to thought lexi was a weird name
My son's middle name is Knight, Dark Knight was a little too on the nose so we dropped the Dark part.
My son's name is Alexander Clark. Alexander is two-fold. It's both my middle name and Lex Luthor's first name.
"That......is....epic.
