Agreed.
I grew up watching Star Wars, I love everything to do with it. I love LOTR as well but I've always liked Star Wars better.
star wars. i enjoy the lord of the rings movies, mostly. some parts bore me to death. book tried 3 times to get into them. didnt happen.
This depends on your definitions of both. Adam Savage put it very succinctly when he was interviewed on Kevin Pollak's Chat Show as, "If we're talking about the 3 Lord of the Rings versus the 6 Star Wars movies, Lord of the Rings. However, there are only really 2 Star Wars movies and in that case, Star Wars." That said, I definitely love both and I'd rather have a lightsaber than any other single item from Rings, but I agree with Mr. Savage that pound for pound, Rings is a far better movie series. We'll see how The Hobbit trilogy turns out; Perhaps it will even out or there will be a very clear winner.
I love them both, but Star Wars has a far larger franchise considering the EU. So I guess I like it more.
Well, for me there's STAR WARS...and then the prequels -_- ...I grew up watching STAR WARS in the 80's over and over again going into the 90's like many others, but with the exception of the visual effects and battle scene's the prequels were a let down for me and they will always be the franchises "Achilles heel" as far as I'm concerned...LOTR on the other hand has been crafted perfectly so far and imo hasn't put a foot wrong, the Hobbit isn't looking like it's going to stop that trend either....so the kid in me wants to say STAR WARS ftw!...buuuuut, in reality LOTR is superior...better director, better actors, better screen play...hell that franchise even has the awards/hardware to prove it.
Star Wars due to the Extended Universe, but if you're regarding merely the films, then it's LOTR but only slightly.
EU makes it a stomp
Before 1975 LotR.
1977 as a little dude sitting in a movie theater it was all about Star Wars.
With the Phantom Menace (and subsequent offal) George Lucas obliterated my childhood.
With LotR Peter Jackson revived it.
Star Wars.
Randal from Clerks said it the best: Three movies about people walking to a volcano. Even the trees walked in that movie.
Lord of the Rings is more consistent. It is consistently great.
Starwars at its best is above LoTR while Starwars at its worst is a crapfest of disgrace.
I spent a day watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy just today, as good as it was it was a snoozer. I spent all day watching Star Wars in chronological order and it was simply amazing and captivating. LoTR is good but Star Wars better, ofcourse this just movie-wize, but either way I think the story of Star Wars is better which is coming from a big fan of the fantasy/magic genre

Star Wars, I can watch it over and over and I never get bored of it. Lord of the rings, love the battle scenes and the characters and the concept, but I can't watch it over and over like SW, it just bores me
My opinion aswell, LoTR was good but at the same time it's boring. I'm watching The Two Towers (what a coincidence since today is 9/11 D: lol) right now and you can guess why I decided to pull out my laptop

Why do people compare them they're both in different genres. But im gonna go with star wars because i prefer sci-fi even though i think the LOTR movies were much better
Its because LotR and Star Wars are probably the two most successful franchises in each genre
Star Wars everyday, all day. PERIOD.
I was having a debate with a friend about this (which is why I'm bumping this) and he literally had the same argument as the LOTR guy in Clerks 2, lowballing the SW prequels, but the LOTR trilogy has nothing on the original SW trilogy.
