I've always liked Star Wars better, but I still like some Star Trek.

That being said I won't be seeing Into Darkness.

Wars. :) Although the reboot got me interested in Star Trek. It was just too much to absorb if I went in on the old series.

Wars.

Didn't really care for any Trek other than the original series and the one with Patrick Stewart (Next Generation, IIRC).

Wars. It's what I grew up with, and I always wanted to be a Jedi. I never really was a trekkie (I refuse to call them trekkers!), and I only really like the reboot Trek movie, and the Next Generation cause of Jean-Luc Picard wonderfully played by Sir Patrick Stewart.

Star Wars in a stomp.

Why? Well SW is really more fantasy than sci-fi complete with knights, damsels, strongholds and dragons. ST was really, really boring to me because it seemed like a thinly veiled United Nations fantasy. It succeeds when it is straight action as in the Abrams remake but falls extremely flat IMO when it starts to philosophize and focus on all the "Prime Directive" baloney. I'll admit that this has probably more to do with my own sociological and political leanings than any thing else but it makes it unwatchable for me.

This would have made an interesting poll were it to get enough responses.

star trek is a much smarter show if you know what i mean by that

star wars shamelessly sold out and destroyed their own universe with the prequels

kinda makes it hard to love.

PS. if you want proof that the prequels are not cannon i can show you just ask :)

Top Ten Reasons The Star Wars Characters Would Kick Butt In The Star Trek U

10. In the Star Wars universe, weapons rarely, if ever, are set on 'stun'.

9. The Enterprise needs a huge engine room with an anti-matter unit and a crew of twenty just to go into warp. The Millennium Falcon does the same thing with R2-D2 and a Wookiee.

8. After resisting the Imperial torture droid and Darth Vader, Princess Leia still looked fresh and desirable. After pithy Cardassian starvation torture, Picard looked like hell.

7. Jabba the Hutt would eat Harry Mudd for trying to cut in on his action.

6. Luke Skywalker is not obsessed with sleeping with every alien he encounters.

5. One word: lightsabers.

4. The Federation would have to attempt to liberate any ship named Slave I.

3. Darth Vader could choke the entire Borg empire with one glance.

2. Picard pilots the Enterprise through an asteroid belt at one-quarter impulse power. Han Solo floors it.

1. The Death Star doesnt care if a world is class M or not.

Well I absolutely love both, however its hard to judge considering how much more Trek content there is (video content), it feels like im alot more exposed to Trek wich has made it have a bigger impact on me while Starwars is short and sweet.. (and waaaaay better videogames).

In the end I guess ill have to say the Starwars world is more entertaining but Startrek has entertained me alot longer.

I should probably add: Its extra hard to compare these two since they are very different. Yes they are both sci-fi stories, however Starwars always seemed more fantasy'ish and 'what if' while focusing on emotional stories, while Trek is more grounded in reality attempting to be as realistic as possible focusing on space exploration and technology with atleast a basis in reality.

BOTH. As a fan of everything fantastical, I can't help myself.

They are, IMO, equally expansive universes with wonderfully integrated story driven characters. Star Trek does have a deeper technical history, but that is only due to there being more material, for a long period time, for the fan base to speculate on. Since SW had the addition of the prequel trilogy and the success of Clone Wars, that may not be the case anymore.

Star Trek because it's more often more relevant and I usually grow to give a damn about the characters - who usually have some measure of reason to do what they do that's believable.

Star Wars. Trek is horribly, horribly boring. Give me a space battle, give me a laser gun duel, give me SOME action, not just old guys standing around talking about the philosophical nature of the universe. The only good Star Trek is the Abrams reboot.

Agreed

I feel SW is far more dull then Star Trek, I agree I think ST is for the more deeper thinker honestly.

The prequels were horrible and I still can't phathom how it takes 30+ years for Lucas to explain basic plot holes...

Even the 4th SW movie with Luke training etc I nearly fell asleep.

SW may have more "action" scenes in the movies but I think plot wise, ST is far more intriguing and more developed, powerful characters. Plus, there would be no SW if not for ST. Star Trek paved the way for deep space shows, exploration, other planets etc

Star Trek.

Star Wars is a fun fantasty adventure and all (the original movies that is) but Star Trek is more of a thinking man's sci fi. Star Trek isn't as accessible as Star Wars, but Trek has always been a keen source of social commentary and a truly great human drama. It's easy to initially get lost in the campiness of the tv series but they really address some interesting and deep topics. Where Star Wars is a classic fun space adventure, Trek is more thoughtful hard sci fi. I prefer the latter, as it leaves me thinking long after I've watched it.

Also ST always brings about these long and deep ethical debates with my friends where SW brings about more of "yeah that part was awesome" or "Han could totally be a Jedi!" I'm sure you can tell which one tends to resonate more with you as you grow older.

Can't compare a few movies with a series. Movies you can jam pack all the hyperaction in with little pause for story, downtime filler whatever. Full throttle in the asteroid field works in a movie, but doing that kind of stuff weekly wouldn't hold up I think. They would run out of high impact material quick, or it would just become overdone and lose effect. That said, I don't want a weekly geek out on solving some space disease, or diplomatic missions either.

It is done - fantastic!

That's even if the character exists in the new continuity post the prequels. Take that expanded universe.

@ssejllenrad: I should have read that one more closely.

2) We get a perfectly reasonable explaination for why our galaxy is crawling with aliens, that looks just like us.

4) Stargate has never done multiple episodes about a main character being impregnated, against their will (ST not only did it, but on Enterprise, they even played it for laughs).

But, since Stargate isn't an alternative: Star Wars.

This seems oddly focused against Star-Trek. It's kinda like this - - -

1. Star Wars is set in the past - in a galaxy far far away.

2. Which one? Goa'uld slavery or the one in Atlantis where the Ancients actively created humans apparently? And most of them aren't aliens but humans straight off Earth - even the Wraith are sporting a good portion of their genome dedicated to human parts - namely why a retrovirus can so easily de-wraith them.

3. They just wear bikini slave girl outfits in Star Wars - and honestly outside most of the females in Star Trek post Kirk era aren't exactly 7 of 9 or T'Pol in appearance. And again - plenty of objectification of women in Stargate - not counting Stargate Universe because that wouldn't be fair. It's just hard to ignore with the Gao'uld were big on whoring out their hosts or random 'alien' human babes pop up and leave very little imagination to the audience in SG-1 and SGA.

4. You're making it sound a lot more rapy than it ever was. And Vala and every Jaffa - an entire slave race of humanoids forced to carry the children of the Goa'uld. Just sayin.

Big fan of Stargate - although it has its glaring flaws - like the universal language almost always being English - but that's the kind of stuff you have to ignore to enjoy the series. Pretending it is the superior to Star Trek - the franchise it borrows so much from - is a bit of a stretch.

This feels like an oddly familiar argument I've debunked come to think of it.
