When do people here think that we Earthlings are going to get united and find our way back to the stars?

If things continue to go the way they are, we never will.

I was under the impression that they are working on it

I believe we'll kill ourselves before we can go to a spaceport to travel to Flargon 7.

I think it's best if the human race doesn't spread its particular brand of stupidity to the stars. I really don't want to corrupt all those poor aliens.

Agreed but it is a political issue above all else I guess, I suppose in a real sense a lot depends on the economy.

I imagine a manned mission to Mars would turn out a lot like PKD's Martian Time Slip.

what if the martians are more corrupt??

By corrupt, I meant their intelligence. Face it, a lot of humans have a knack for lowering IQ points.

@ZombieBigfoot: what if aliens have idiots too? I mean it's possible their intelligence levels are diverse as mankind. Unless they just kill off their stupid brethren. I believe in the possibility of life on other planets but dear gawd I hope their smarter than us.

You lost me at "united." Humans will never be united - about anything.

Only reason it was so speared before was because of the cold war and US/USSR were competing in that regard. So said a bit of competition isn't bad for humanity as a whole.

I find it hard to believe that there are aliens out there dumb enough to come up with Jersey Shore.

Knowing us we would probably start some sort of war out there.  
Kill things we don't know, and breed with the good looking aliens.   
As for when we will start..not any time soon.

When it's cheap enough for the real masters of the earth to make a profit

In short when the companies let you........(look up the psychological behavior in regards to non-entity behavioral models overlaid on organizational entity's)

it's why profit making companies & not elected officials control the world

when or if we get into the stars i expect us to operate in a similar fashion to these fellows:
