So I just got back from seeing Godzilla, which was my most anticipated film of the year, sadly, I felt it was lacking. Most of the film is the military explaining what Godzilla (and the two other M.U.T.Os) are and how to defeat them, we see a few cities being attack by the M.U.T.Os, but everytime Godzilla shows up, we don't see him actually do much. The major battle is the last 15 mins of the movie. Now, let me say, this battle is intense, and it will make old school Godzilla fans happy, but I wanted MORE!! The movie just scraps the two hour mark and we only see Godzilla prove he's the King of Monsters for 15 mins or so!

It was an okay film, the monsters looked great, Godzilla looked great, but I came in wanting to see him fight monsters, not having shocked marines running around trying to deal with the situation.

Ultimately, I'd give it 3 stars.

@the_stegman: I knew it was going to be a bunch a build up, but the Cranston thing is just depressing. I'll still watch it, just not in theaters.

Where was fights?! Look, I loved everything. The plot, lighting, effects, soundtrack, etc. But there was such little monster fights. The movie could have been call M.U.T.O. . Yeah, the final fight scene was cool. But it was 6/10 at best. Don't get me started on the whole "Godzilla makes this big entrance and roars, then cuts away to humans"

It happened three f&^*ing times!

@darling_luna: I wasn't so much mad that they didn't have the fights, but that they teased us the way they did, you'd see Godzilla about to fight, and it would cut away, too much build up. I think the reviewer Jeremy Jahns says it better than I.

@the_stegman: I agree, the entire time I was agitated whenever I see the monsters then it frequently cuts back to the human characters, where inside my head I was already growing impatient to just see the monsters already.

@jwalser3: The plot was stupid, the effects were the only good part of the movie. If they were guiding Godzilla to the mainland why were they shooting at him at the golden gate bridge?

Sounds like Walter White should of gave Godzilla some of his blue meth........ Holy $#!%... That's the movie I want to see. Godzilla all tweaked out on meth, F-ing up New Mexico, with Heisenberg riding on top of him, yelling "I'M THE ONE WHO KNOCKS!" When are they making that movie? I would watch the $#!% out of that film.....

I saw Godzilla last week, and honestly, my favorite Godzilla movie of all time, right behind Godzilla vs King Ghidorah of the 1990's. This coming from someone who still has all the movies in VHS.

Still, The lack of godzilla fights is leading up to the point of the final battle. Which was well worth it.

But this Godzilla movie accomplished what no Godzilla movie since the Gojira of 1954 has, and that was the real feeling of destruction and suffering. The POV of the people was to let you really feel how it would have been like being there yourself. And to me, it did a great job of it.

Another thing it took pointers from was both the Original 1954, and Jaws, the fact that you don't fully get your look at him until much later. And it's well worth it, as I said before. Most stupid action movies get stupid silly with their fight scenes so early on and it kills the final battle's effect.

Bryan Cranston was a little of a hook, yes, but he set up for more things. The fact that he was gone so early made you actually realize that anybody and everybody could have died in that movie. It wasn't just a mindless monster movie. It was so much more, with underlying tones.

Sorry Steg, I usually agree with you in alot, but not in this one.

I give it a four.

I thought it was pretty good actually. The suspense and uncertainty leading up to Godzilla was almost like the original Jaws film which is a classic. A lot of people are complaining about the lack of action with Godzilla, but the final fight is about 20 minutes, plus you get little snippets of fights all throughout the film. So, there was no shortage IMO. People are also complaining about the human element, but I doubt these people have seen many Godzilla films. I'm not saying i've seen all of them, but I have seen 3-4 of the Japanese ones and humans take up a lot of screen time. So, anyone expecting to see 2 hours of monster battles is mistaken. Besides, while that may be fun to watch, it wouldn't make for a good film.

So, I actually thought this movie was a nice and faithful enough adaptation of the Japanese Godzilla films. It gets an 8/10 for me.

Godzilla was a fatass though. Dude even took a nap at the end lmao

And that destruction??....If you had a problem with MoS, just do not watch this lol
