Long live Snoop Lion suckers

Snoop Dogg has officially dropped the Dogg act and upgraded his name to "Snoop Lion".

The rapper says he underwent a spiritual and artistic rebirth while in Jamaica where he was given the new moniker by Rastafarian priests.

Legally he isn't any sort of animal, of course, but must go by the name Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr.

"I want to bury Snoop Dogg, and become Snoop Lion" Mr Broadus Jr told journalists at a news conference in New York.

"I didn't know that until I went to the temple, where the High Priest asked me what my name was, and I said, 'Snoop Dogg.' And he looked me in my eyes and said, 'No more. You are the light; you are the lion.' From that moment on, it's like I had started to understand why I was there."

The 40-year-old said as a result of his reincarnation, his new album will be a reggae record as he finds rap no longer "a challenge."

“There comes a point where you say I done it all, or there isn’t much more to do,” he said. “This was like a rebirth for me.

"With no disrespect to other rappers, but they can't f--- with me in rap ... I've won every accolade you can get in rap, they call me 'Uncle Snoop' in rap. When you're an uncle, it's time to find something new ... I want to feel like a kid again."

“I have always said I was Bob Marley reincarnated. I feel I have always been a Rastafari. I just didn’t have my third eye open, but its wide open right now.”

Broadus Jr is currently working on his fifth album, Reincarnated, which is strictly a reggae project.

More and more you realize that Snoop is no different than that pot head you went to to high school with. You know, the one who would roll blunts in the back of the class and do really stupid sh*t but you still had to appreciate the guy?

@Death Certificate: yes it is a rastafarian thing,and i know (not a rastafarian but a Jamaican and knows from personal experience) ,but honestly,snoop dog you did not open a 3rd eye,you just became brain dead from all that pot and @$$ juice blowing in your face....and i hate how people nowadays are now trying to find a new trend in jamaican things,LEAVE US ALONE,because the media is a bunch of greedy,disrespectful idiots who only do things for money and fame.With that said,he should (better) do good,however if it is some generic american crap to "sound" like reggae,or be like what we think reggae to be like than i will punch him in his eye.And i know somebody is gonna reference jamaicans and weed,but funny..look at jamaican schools and see if you see alot of kids smoking weed,however look how much american (even ghetto people,who i am also mainly talking about) smoke in middle school alone.And i swear i know some retarded american is gonna rub up on reggae and jamaicans and act like they are born jamaicans,they are not,they are gonna get the plasma beat out of them and bleed from their noses,point being,it's best if they stick to what they like,if they like reggae so be it,if not,don't try to be 1.

also no offense to them,actually,no offense intended...but jesus himself knows i HATE ghetto people.

AND no offense intended again,but i REALLY hate Caucasian people who swear they are Jamaican or Rastafarian,i don't feel bad when they get beat up the color of the us flag....i am evil >:3

@Death Certificate: ok now that i reread it it has references to me being mad,which is true...but then i added some funny (or in my opinion funny) things to lighten the mood,also their is some mistakes in there,but mostly,i want people to know i didn't mean that as a race/nationality seperator,but basically be who you are,if you like reggae,or rap or whatever that's cool,if you want to be a rastafarian,fine...but don't wear cheap dreadlocks and a rasta colored hat and then start smoking pot and hanging with jamaicans and adding mon' at the end of your sentences because it won't end how you think and it's downright annoying...because if americans saw a stereotype of them in another country,they may even resent the country..like the fat stereotype,with many it is genetic or there is a valid excuse,with others...it is because they don't care for their bodies and they just eat and live (somewhat) "pampered" lives,there is no excuse really.....they can go on a diet *gasp*

which can be difficult,but if you want to try the fake diet programs than go on.

@cameron83: I can see how snopp's attitude with the reggae can piss people off if the shoe was on the other foot, but only time tell if snopp is being real or fake about this new direction.
