Since when were cartoon battles been taken seriously around here?

I'm both fascinated and confused on the fact that cartoon characters are used oftenly in the battle threads so when did cartoon characters started getting used?

Why you hating on cartoon characters? Though will admit, don't like the newer ones much prefer the older.
