You should, and most of the time, I try and succeed at, with the notable exception of youtube.
But your reputation never reach another forum.
No you don't.
You should try not to be an arshoule online.
But caring for what a bunch of stranger think about you is a silly thing.
You're not required to conduct yourself in any particular manner on the internet, so I'd say that the answer to your question would be "no." I think lowly of those who actively go out of their way to be assholes without any reason for doing so, though, so I choose to be polite to others—I don't like being a dick.
I am who I am. Some call me mean, some call me nice.
But to answer your question: no one really has to be polite over the net, it's just something people do, tbh. I don't mind the kindness, but they're not obligated to do so.
Civil discussion on the net is encouraged, but honestly, you don't have to act a certain way on the net. I dislike assholes and I appreciate kind people, but you shouldn't be obligated or forced to be either.

Yes I do, most of the time, when people don't call me delusional on the ground that we simply disagree with each other. ;-)

@xaos: Fair enough.
Nope
Chances are you don't know anyone from comic vine irl
Being anonymous reveals a person's true nature
In a perfect world.
Yep. If we all lived in Perfectville, a city full of gum drops and rainbows, and everyone was made of cotton candy and sugar plums, maybe we could all be polite on the Internet.
Never be polite if you don't have to. Better yet, avoid situations where you have to, where you can. Politeness is dishonesty that is deemed tasteful.
Of course, it actually disturbs me how brutal people can be on the internet, especially when you know that never would have happened if you were facing each other in the real world.

The difference is, if they were facing each other in the real world, they would have been afraid of the consequences of saying something that is considered impolite, which is hardly any better. It's just a charade, an unspoken agreement to keep interactions as smooth and superficial as possible.

That you don't live in.

If you don't like the internet as it is, then why use it?

@rouflex: Because the internet has more options than talking to people. It's a tool, and I do my best to avoid places like youtube comments, well any kind of comment section really, and I stay away from social media. I try to make a good situation out of a plague
@ultimatepower6: Fair enough mate.
