Silly, just don't celebrate if you don't like it. The more holidays the better IMO.
Yes it's 2015 come on! How can you celebrate a holiday where 2 different groups had a peaceful meeting.
This. I mean c'mon people, it's the current year. How can you have a different opinion after I tell you it's the current year??

Does anyone remember years back when a college professor tried this same thing and ended up getting protested at by Native Americans because it was a holiday that showed them in a good light?

Interesting..

That's usually the outcome with a lot of liberal witch hunts, it's usually started by some SWPL and it backfires on them by the people they are trying to get civil justice for. When the sports teams that have some sort of Native American related name were under fire they polled Native American communities and it turns out, a lot of them don't even give a crap.
@cattlebattle: That happened with the Florida State University Seminoles a few years back. Turns out, the tribe has control over their representation at public functions and games, plus members get a break on tuition to the school.
And, no Thanksgiving should not be abolished. I want my turkey, fixings and pumpkin pie. I want my Macy's Day Parade and Black Friday. Or, are we going to change that name, too?
No songs. No cards. No gifts. Just people you care about and a ton of good food. Best holiday there is.
All holidays should be removed - sue me, looool.
See you in court next Monday.
@mysticmedivh: Fine. I'll win anyway. ;)

Yes, it supports Native American Cultural Appropriation, which rustles my SJW jimmies and offends me as a white college student whos parents paid my way into schooling
Best comment all day XD

Yes, this guy gets it!
Why you meanie bum why >_<
We don't wanna remove holidays. I don't celebrate Thanksgiving but that does not mean I don't adore having an extra day off or being paid the public holiday rate on the unfortunate scenario where you are called for work hehe.
Holidays are awesome.
On a more serious note, regardless of the religious connotations behind it holidays like Thanksgiving help get the whole family together. It helps us bond better with family member, why would anyone think anything wrong about Thanksgiving.
Canada celebrated Thanksgiving before the States did, so no. But to answer the question as the OP presumably meant it, as a non-American weighing in on it, I don't get why it should be. Like someone already mentioned, it's the best holiday there is since nothing is expected of anyone outside of their company and best wishes. Taking the time to be grateful and to express it with important people in your life is a good thing, no matter how stupidly some people might want to spin it.
Why don't we get rid of the gradeschool murdering of history and just celebrate thanksgiving as a family holiday?
They can rename it White Guilt Day. Everyone wins.
That's already every day.

It's not like we weren't warned. Michelle Obama warned us that "Barack knows we are going to have to make sacrifices, we are going to have to change our conversation, we're going to have to change our traditions, our history, we are going to have to move into a different place as a nation to provide the kind of future we all want, desparately for our children."
Let's keep changing everything about our society in pursuit of the grand socialist revolution!
No; Thanksgiving is a holiday rooted in United States tradition and history; it's about as important to the United States as Independence Day; who knows, maybe one day in the near future, it might come up for real debate, assuming the End Times or days of Revelation have not started.
Too late. Its already started.
Why? "coz whyte peeple meen too naytive 'mericans?"
No only that, you seem to find it to be a joke that the Europeans literally tried to exterminate a whole race of people.
I am all for letting the past be in the past and moving forward with positivity. Thanksgiving, to me, is a time to thank G-d for your blessings.
So why you gotta be so heartless about it? You don't even have to agree out loud. Just simply being quiet in public when you don't have anything constructive to contribute would suffice.
@edblank: Because it's annoying hearing about how all white Americans should feel guilty for something they had nothing to do with. Also, they didn't have the intent to wipe them out. That is a huge misconception and oversimplified summation of hundreds of years of events.
