I'm going to say no simply because not everyone is able to. Some people have personal health issues that might not allow them to be able to exercise to begin with, and do they deserve to be penalized for something they have no control over? Of course not.
Are you an oppressive dictator, or a "Jimmie Rustler" with ambiguous animosity toward obese individuals?
Just curious.
@legacy6364: Neither kind sir.
You should have to be able to bench 250+ and squat 300+ to qualify for health care.
Bro, do you even lift?
@mysticmedivh: I LIFT HARDER THAN YOU $

@mysticmedivh: Laaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
It's an interesting idea. In some ways, this is already in place in schools with physical education. It would go a long way to alleviating the strain on health care systems.
@squares: You're not American?
@gymgoer205: Nope, I'm Canadian.
@squares: Word.
@wolverine08: Is your squat above 300?

Agreed.

Being healthy is a choice. You shouldn't be forced to live a certain way just for benefits.
No one would be forcing anyone. You make the choice not to exercise for one measly hour (which is actually ridiculously easy) and not wolf down garbage, you get free healthcare. You don't and you won't get that privilege. Simple and straightforward.
I agree with the OP.

Even cripples can exercise, you know. And not eating garbage would be something that they would already be doing not to make their situation worse, if my co-worker's personal habits are anything to go by.
@orangebat: Or just give people health care without any catch.. Simple and Straight forward.
There are a few problems with this.
@wolverine08: show off.
1) Monthly physicals.
2) It would be free for the people receiving it.
3) Eating healthy is more expensive but only a little bit. About 1.50 more a day.
4) Maybe Websters Dictionary can.
Exercise-physical activity that is done in order to become stronger and healthier.
5) For healthy eating just follow the CDC's guidelines.
I hope I answered your questions.

Except that in my contry and many others; Healthcare isn't a privilege, it's a right. Simple and straightforward.
@greatcaesarsghost: So people have a RIGHT to others money in your country? Strong logic.
@greatcaesarsghost: So people have a RIGHT to others money in your country? Strong logic.
Everytime you drive on a street, you are having the right to other people's money. Everytime you need to call the cops of fire department, you are having the rights to other people's money. Everytime you check out a book from a library, you are having the rights to other people's money. Having a standing miltary to protection is having the rights to other people's money. Everyone who has went to public schools has had the right to other people's money.
The insurance industry itself is privatized socialism. Money is collected and pooled together. When you go to a doctor's, it isn't YOUR money paying for the trip, it is the combined money of everyone that uses that insurance company. You are using other people's money. The only real difference is that in government socialism no one is going to throw you off the insurance because you actually have to use it.
@lateralus: They shouldn't be rights. They should be privileges, in my opinion. Maybe then people would learn to respect them. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness should be the only RIGHTS. Just my opinion of course.

Well, you would love Somalia then
@lateralus: No, I would not. I believe that they should be given but respected. They shouldn't be a right, for example if you are stealing library books you should lose the privilege to borrow them. If you're not taking care of your health you should lose the privilege of free healthcare.
So who pays for the monthly checkups at the Doctors? Or is that covered by the free healthcare that you haven't qualified for yet?
Also, just because you find it easy to get in an hour a day worth of exercise doesn't mean that everyone else finds it as easy. Just like increasing your grocery budget by 50% to cover healthy eating.
Life, Liberty & the pursuit of Happiness? They're great ideals, but how do you start defining what's covered by that?

BAM!!!
Nicely put.
@wolverine08: @mysticmedivh: so you both lift, but I have a question

I eat omniverses every femtosecond.
While it shouldnt be a requirement, people should atleast be told by a doctor that theyre in a healthy bodyfat%. If people want to eat like shxt and sit at home all day then let them be but those who do that and end up weighing 300+ pounds because they didnt care and not because of an illness shouldnt get anything for free. Stop buying KFC and buy yourself a gym membershipp and youll spend less times taking pills and catching your breath after going up small stairs.
@squares: Are Canadian's even a type of people? I thought it was just a piece of North America that we kept unreserved so we have a place to dodge wars in case of a draft reinstatement? >:P
1) Yes, the monthly physicals would be covered by the free healthcare.
2) Eating healthy doesn't cost 50% more. Unless of course you're daily food budget is $1.50. It costs $1.50 more a day to eat healthy.
3) Sure some people can't, the vast majority of people can though. Instead of watching TV for 4 hours a night, go to the gym for 1 hour and watch TV for 3.
4) Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is pretty clear to me. Sorry, I don't know how to simplify it any further.
5) I addressed that in posts #33 and #35.

$1.50 a day per person sounds pretty cheap but is equivalent to $6 a day for a family of four. Multiply that by 30 and you are talking $180 a month.
So if both the parents in this family of four work 40 hours a week at minimum wage they will bring home roughly $2000 a month.
-600 for rent on a crappy 3 bedroom apartment (may be higher in some areas, but that is low end in my area)
-300 for basic utilities (gas and electric....would be higher in winter months)
-200 for a car payment (assuming only 1 car)
-100 for car insurance
-350 for normal groceries and household things like shampoo, t.p., and dish soap
-100 for gas money (figuring $25 per week is a fair estimate)
Right here we are already at $1650.....and that is not including things like phone, internet, and cable because they are considered "luxuries". Also not included are things like having to buy new clothes.
1) People should take their income into account when having kids.
2) Get a used car or take public transportation.
3) Buy store brand food and cosmetics.
4) Forego luxuries until you can get a better job. Use basic phone/Internet/cable.
5) Buy cheaper clothes and don't buy clothes every month.
6) Consider welfare if it's still hard to come up with the extra $180.

Truly baffling that reply. Earlier you were bitching about "the right to other people's money" now you are telling them to take "other people's money" so they can get more of "other people's money".
You can't complain about someone getting free healthcare and then tell them to get on food stamps so they can get on free healthcare.
1) Flagged for using the B word.
2) I wasn't complaining about people using others money, I simply said that they shouldn't have a RIGHT to it. Healthcare should be a privilege that's respected just like welfare.
