SHOULD MAGIC HAV LIMITS IN STORIES

lets look at all stories comics, movies,novels anything magicallly magic

1) how does ghost rider exsist in the world where theres aliens and silver sufer and space crap. Is magic stronger than science
and wat rules govern magic there seems to not really be a hell of alot of thinking around this subject in stories

2) that is it a good thing or a bad thing

lets tak harry potter for example im not the biggest geeky geek fan and its not really my thing but its a good story that comands a large audience.

In harry potter there are rules about magic like the curses and 3 or 4 or wateva curses.

in comics like jsa,shadow,ghostrider,even the justice league and even constantine there are abosoultly no rules or limits to the magic  well not really hows sumone like cyborg or green arrow or even superman (weak against magic)  suposed to save the world when at the drop of a hat they can be turned into a pair of sunglasses.

ZATANNA CAN DO ANYTHING all she has to do is say it backwards

what do u think?

I like Sandman's description. Everything is based on rules.

In the case of Doctor Doom, NO.

In the case of everyone else, YES.

@JediXMan
yeah thats a gud point but wat about the gods in sadman comics alll god exist he gets the key to helll in like the second comic and has to auction it offf to other gods that run hell where its a cool thort its confusing that all the conflicting ideals and beleifs alll can co exsist

for examlpe is hell and the river styxs the sam place or are they seperate its never defined only that there is a lucifer and there is a hades

@Static Shock:
yeah thats true its sorta why im asking the questioni guess im writing a story atm and if i involve demons then it insinuates that there is a hell and if there is a hell u also get heaven. and if there is a demon can u kill them with bullets or do u hav to get sumthing inchanted or holy water or sunthging . its annoying i want a story of mystery it but things keep being called for explaination that takes the mystery away from the story..... if u know wat i mean

QFT. The stuff that John Constantine pulls generally comes back to bite him in the butt, one way or another.

Actually magic is limited by Sorcerer's knownledge, skills and the magic items that he is using at the moment (Like Mjolnir, the Norn Stones, etc).
Some sorcerers seem unbeateable like the Doctor Strange (as the sorcerer supreme), but just because he already has a lot of training using magic and he has one of the most powerful magic items with him (the eye of agamoto), also in the marvel universe some sorcerers rarely use their own power, they summon the power from other magic beings (Cyttorak, Dormmamu, Odin, etc)...

There has to be some rules to follow with magic otherwise the story becomes all willy-nilly.

Magic already has limits it just depends on the character.
