Everybody is ok with killing insects in your house, like roaches and spiders. Yes, you can step on ants every day and defend yourself from bugs but....

Let me ask you something viners. Animal cruelty applies to animals but what about when insects are killed in a cruel way, for no purpose? Should insects have protection from the people that put a magnifying glass to an insect to watch them burn and twitch? What about cutting parts of insects just because you want too and dumping acid on ant hills?

Though I oppose general insect and lower-life-form sadism (Think burning ants with a magnifying glass, or sprinkling salt on a snail), I don't think insects feel pain, are intelligent or even fully qualify as sentient. So no, I don't think animal rights should apply to them.

If it's for no purpose, then yes. It's cruel.

I agree. I do use insects for fishing however... Some people would say fishing is cruel, but a girl needs to eat.

When I was little I would trap a bunch of ants, take my magnifying glass and watch them fry. So no, it should not apply to insects or else I would have been fined at a really early age.

I'm sorry but I can't kill a bug that's bigger than a fly, if I find a stink bug in the house I'll pick it up and take it outside.

Spiders eat the bugs in the house so they're useful

No. If an insect is in my home, it dies. Simple as that.

No because I don't really think insects are like other animals. They're straight up robots. Plus they can be very annoying and d!cks for no reason. But I think honey bees, earthworms, and house spiders shouldn't be killed because they are actually useful.

Insects lack higher brain function. They process information like pain differently than larger animals.

So what, you think a person should be hated for accidentally stepping on a bug without even noticing?

Yes, of course. Although since insects are much more persistant in disturbing your day to day life in ways such as entering your home and laying ******* eggs everywhere I do see the need for some flexibility in the rule, for an instant killing them is fine but there is no reason you shouldn't do it as painlessly as possible. Intentionally inflecting pain without a valid reason is always wrong.

Yes, insects feel pain albeit in a way different to most vertebrates and some invertebrates (mostly cephalopods). There are some really horrible videos on youtube of people dousing cockroaches in gasoline and setting fire to them. I don't care what it does or how much annoyance it causes nothing deserves to be treated like that

Are people so desperate to make threads that this is the best they can come up with. It would be awesome if common sense was common.

Agreed. But sadly there are far worse threads in the off-topic that really make you want to never come back here again.

It really depends. If you are worried about the laws on animal cruelty, you won't get in trouble as long as you do not kill any endangered species and someone finds out about it. So, killing them in your home in order to prevent diseases or your furniture is alright. - MXX
