Selling my Collection

#1 Posted by cmcsky88M (6 posts) - 9 months, 28 days ago - Show Bio

I really didn't want to part with my collection so soon but I'm in the service and I ship out soon and I would like to be able to help my family out before I leave and hopefully get what my collection is worth.

Rather than make a huge post, I've uploaded it to Google Drive. (Excel Document): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ArLxkPzqi53pdE1PUFBla0FrQy01dkl3OElQWWNndVE

I apologize to the moderator's in advance if this is considered spam, this is one of my favorite comic websites and I thought I'd try here as well to post a listing.

Have you tried eBay?

Ebay does seem like the best bet. Or a garage sale.

Honestly I wanted to make eBay a last resort, I don't care much for the company from previous experience when I got scammed and customer support didn't even make an attempt to resolve the matter.

@cmcsky88M:

Gotta be honest: I haven't had much trouble with eBay. But really, I have more experience buying than selling, so I'm not sure.

Nah, not a garage sale. That's fine but you won't get a good price.

@JediXMan: Oh, I know. Sold an xbox plus twenty games for about.. $20, when I could've gotten more online. I was joking. Ebay's the better bet.

@cmcsky88M: Unless you know of friends and/or family that might want to buy it, it seems a lot like Ebay's the best choice here.

@JediXMan: Definitely straying away from Garage Sales for that reason exactly. I've emailed two buyers that I've found so far and I was likely going to go to local comic shops as well to see they know of anyone.

@ZombieBigfoot : If I do eBay the problem with that is I don't have an estimation of value for the entire collection at the moment. I mean, I've looked up for what I know is valuable and all but I have about 500 comics so looking up each is a bit  tedious .

Ah. Yeah, I got 30 comics for about $15 ($5 for 10). Got some nice stuff. Another time I got around 15 for $7.

Which reminds me: I should go to some garage sales... sucks for the sellers but it's great for me. I just bought Dante's Inferno for $1 (excellent condition. We're talking book store quality)

That's not a bad idea, actually.

Tip: for certain comics, I might consider selling them individually or by series, not in bulk. I myself, as an eBay customer, gravitate more toward those.

Also: be honest. And say if you're a smoker. I got about 20 comics on eBay and they smelled of cigarette smoke - I was able to mostly get the smell out, but it would have been nice if the seller said that.

@cmcsky88M: Can't really tell you how to fix that besides trying to compare it to other items like it. There's several people on e-bay that sell collections as one big surplus.. thing. I'd say just make a guess on the overall value. If not that, get a friend or two to come over and help you go through them. The process might take awhile, but it'd be better than a blind guess.

@JediXMan: Unfortunately enough, all of the garage sales in my town are usually old people selling pots and clothing. I think I found some nice action figures once, but that's about it.

Well, that's okay for me, too. I like books, especially classics. Comics are good, too. I buy what I like and can find.

@JediXMan: Same here. If one has enough patience, it's actually pretty fun when you find stuff. Saw a guy selling one of the old playstations once, would of bought it if I'd had any room left in my beddroom.

@JediXMan: Hehe, non-smoker. Only problem is the occasional torn pages/water damage on a few - not many. Garage Sales are great for just about anything you've wanted but for cheap. So mad I avoided a Super Nintendo last time I went to one. I've been considering the by-series since I do have a ton of the same series, specifically Sonic/Transformers/Spider-Man.

@ZombieBigfoot:  Likely my best bet, but seeing as how I'm the only comic guy of the group. Maybe someone at a store will help.

Also, unrelated but I am loving the Captain Jack/Tenth avatar duo thing going on here haha.

Well, just be honest about the condition and people won't get pissed off.

If you combine series, try to make them similar. Like same publisher, similar character, etc.

It's awesome when you find rare stuff.

It's pretty funny how that happened - completely by accident, I assure you. I'm also disappointed that so few people know who my avatar is. Props for noticing.

Good luck with it.

And yeah.. I just randomly switched to Captain Jack. Was genuinely surprised that his wasn't recognized, when it's a considerably more recognizable face compared to Jack.

I knew who your avatar was immediately. Ironically, I was considering using an Owen Harper avatar. That would've been weird. Only reason I didn't is because he would be confused with the guy from TDKR (played by the same actor)

#18 Posted by _Zombie_ (9599 posts) - 9 months, 28 days ago - Show Bio

@JediXMan: That would've been seriously weird. And haven't watched TDKR yet, transportation's non-existent and I'm out of cash.

On that note, I need to watch Torchwood. But of course, we don't have Netflix..

@ZombieBigfoot:

Torchwood is great. Well, the BBC Torchwood is great; the fourth (American) season sucked. My favorite particular season is season 3 (Children of Earth).

#20 Posted by _Zombie_ (9599 posts) - 9 months, 28 days ago - Show Bio

@JediXMan: I'll have to try and find a way to watch it, or see if they do re-runs of it. BBC usually only runs Doctor Who, though.

@ZombieBigfoot@JediXMan: I'm a huge Doctor Who fan so I instantly recognized em' both. Sad to say that although I was able to attend SDCC this year, I wasn't there for the panel on Sunday. Hoping to take leave to see the Experience in Cardiff next year which I'm sure will be just as awesome.

Selling in bulk on ebay doesn't give you the best bang for your buck.
