Hal jordan (parallax): His home city was destroyed.

Magneto: Family killed in the holocaust.

Anakin skywalker: Agrees to become evil to save his wife but it turns out they killed her.

Eric draven: He was killed and his fiancee was raped and stabbed as he watched.

Mr freeze : Had a troubled childhood and his dying wife is the sole purpose of his villanous ways.

Spawn: Made a deal with the devil to see his wife again but it turns out he was an abusive husband and that he killed his child.

Carnage: His mother tried to kill him and his father beat his mother to death

Asura: Betrayed by his allies, framed for the murder of thr emperor and his wife was killed.

Kratos: Betrayed by the gods and was brainwashed to kill his daughter and wife.

These are just a few i can think of.

Yep.

Atrocitus, Bleez, Ratchet. Red Lanterns have F***ED UP origin stories most of the time. Skallox's didn't do much for me and I honestly forgot Zilius's, but those three have some really heinous origins. Atrocitus: Entirely family (wife, kids, dog, gerbil, parents, friends, lawn) everything destroyed. Bleez: Watches her mother get murdered, is then gangraped and mutilated. Ratchet: Forced to live in isolation, then captured and extensively tortured/mutilated/deformed when he tries to make friends.

The most sad are generally more subtle, at least to me.  
Light Yagami being a good one. Had he not found the Death Note, he'd have become a true beacon of goodness for society, but he had all of that torn away, and doomed his family and friends because of it. Simply because a Shinigami got bored and wanted to screw with humans.

Bane, born in Peña Duro prison with a life sentence, for the crimes of his farther.

Red Hood: dad in prison, mom drug addict who dies of an overdose. He learns his mother is not his biological mother. He finds his birth mother who betrays him to the Joker. Then he is beat half to death by joker with a crowbar, and dies from the explosives. Brought back to life by Ra's to find Joker still running free and his father figure bruce didn't avenge his death (not sure if this is all change with new 52)

Jason Todd. Lost his biological family to drugs and crime. Adopted by Batman and brutally murdered. Came back and realized that his death seemed to barely matter.
