I can't even begin to describe the amount of joy that Ryan Davis has brought to me over the years, nor can I the heartache I feel from his passing. While it is still hard for me to except a world without him, I will never forget the impact he has made in my life.

Rest in Peace

@lykopis: It really is. I won't be watching the podcast til I'm alone later. When I found out he died I had company over so I had to try to fight the tears back. Still can't believe his gone. At first I was hoping that this was just a sick joke.

#87 Posted by lykopis (10746 posts) - - Show Bio

@samimista:

Aw. Yeah, you need to hear this alone. :(

@jonny_anonymous:

I kind of am there already -- hearing these guys talk about their beginnings and their genuine laughter -- you can tell...you know? How hard this is -- they straightaway went for humour (which is Ryan) and they want to do well by him.

This is a real hit to GiantBomb. A big hit.

#88 Posted by Jonny_Anonymous (35065 posts) - - Show Bio

@lykopis: Yea you can here the guys crack a few times and then Jeff saves it by making a joke since he was Ryan's best friend he would know if he was still hear he'd just be taking the piss out of all of them.

#89 Posted by lykopis (10746 posts) - - Show Bio

@jonny_anonymous:

It's the pauses - exactly.

And yeah, Jeff swoops in and keeps it focused on Ryan's antics. Photogenic b*st*rd...I can't help laughing but I am having a hard time seeing my screen through the tears.

@jonny_anonymous:

lol

I have half an hour more to go. So hard. So funny and so sad and so great. This man has been and still is very, very loved.

#94 Posted by Jonny_Anonymous (35065 posts) - - Show Bio

@lykopis: It get's harder towards the end.

This will sound totally hammy but he is actually one of my inspirations, the whole deal with how Giant Bomb was formed with Jeff being fired from Gamespot because he refused to write a positive review for a game he thought didn't deserve it and then Ryan quitting in protest and the pair of them setting up there own game website in a basement with a bunch of tvs. That actually inspired me and a few of my friends to try and set up our own game site, which is currently an ongoing project.

#95 Posted by lykopis (10746 posts) - - Show Bio

@jonny_anonymous:

wow.

Not hammy. Not at all. Their story is definitely inspiring and I am so sorry you lost one of your role models so prematurely. It's devastating stuff and he obviously deserves your praise. You are doing right by him, sharing who he is with us here, letting us get the know him beyond the snippets here and there.

Kinda having a hard time at the moment - one of the most painful conversations I have ever heard and even though you warned me...I can only feel sad. His young son and wife -- it being so soon after his wedding and of course, it being the long weekend and the Fourth of July. It's wrong and unfair and Jeff said it best at the end. It's going to be like that for you and others who Ryan touched and influenced -- good and then bad and then good and then, bad.

I wish you success in your project, you've got a great path to follow. I am really, really sorry.

My condolences. Death is an unfortunate part of life and sometimes we just have to continue living our lives for the memory of the person. For they are never truly gone, as long as we keep their memories alive.
