Recommend some Animes.

Now when it comes to me and Anime, my favorites are very biased to to nostalgia purposes. Because I watched DBZ, Rurouni Kenshin, Case Closed and Lupin the Third as a kid..and really grew up with those shows. It's hard for me to give new shows or even other classics a chance.

Can anyone reccomend some Animes to me that may have that same feel? Kind've like a Dark drama/action series? Preferably ones with English dubs. Not a fan of subs, probably just my add. I usually gotta play a game or something while I watch a show lol.

@fallschirmjager: Trust me, I've tried. Since most animes aren't English dubbed, and if they are, it's only partially done. Or poorly done, and childishly annoying.

Every time I try to watch subs of my favorites like Lupin, Detective Conan, Cowboy Bebop, trigun. I just lose interest quickly. Not that I mind reading, in fact I try to read a book every couple weeks or so. But when it comes to subtitles..it's just annoying to me. Not to mention when I do watch it, I can't muti-task without missing parts. Idk, maybe after a while it'll grow on me.

@commander_kane: To each his own I guess. I cannot stand watching dubs for reasons you listed and more. But if I get started on a rant, I won't stop so...

FMA: Brotherhood. Not dark non-stop, but once it picks up it gets pretty damn screwed up.

Psycho Pass is good, too. Not dubbed, but it's still good.

I watched a little bit of Hellsing Black Lagoon and Death Note, all 3 of them are bad*ss.

They've both been mentioned but I must say Neon Genesis Evangelion and Attack on Titan are both a must watch.

Skip Death Note, the manga is much better.

One nobody has pitched yet is Speed Grapher it was an underrated anime but its great has a lot of dark moments but has heart as well.

@squares: Speed Grapher came out around 2006 I think. I think it was just too weird to get a lot of attention I mean the story is about a burnt out war photographer that stumbles on this weird cult where the rich and famous do all these gross things. It's kind of like the hellfire club he notices their goddess that can give you powers is this drugged 16 year old girl and he makes it his mission to free her from them after she kisses him and he gains a super ability (Anything he takes a picture of will blow up).

It's different but I really liked it had a good balance of action and drama plus its only 24 episodes and I think you can watch it on Netflix or buy the series for like 20 bucks.

@cooldes: No. dub is horribad. Most of the voice actors are godawful and 99% of the time stuff is either mistranslated or meaning is lost because it doesn't translate directly.

Naruto for example says Dattebayo after almost every sentence. Its just a way of making your speech unique. However it really doesn't have a true translation and thats why in the loldub he says Believe It 500 times every episode. Its stupid.

@mitran: There are some anime I can stand in dub if I have to, but no anime I prefer in dub.

DBZ, YYH, Cowboy Bebop and Ruroni Kenshin are all okay in dub if I can't find them subbed (which is sometimes harder than you think lol)

And really the only reason I'm okay with dub for those is because I saw them first in dub. Any anime I see first in sub will pretty much disgust me with the dubbed version.

One of these days I need to learn Japanese and just watch it RAW :D

but since we're on naruto lets use him as an example of why subs are sooo nasty. they seem to think all male main characters need a female voice actor for some strange reason. Naruto sounds like a 7 y/o girl. So does luffy, goku, etc. But yet charcters like sakura have more manly grunts than i do. it's also much more natural to watch what is happening on screen action wise, and hear what is being said, and the sound effects, than to have to read what characters are saying in a language i don't understand, while the action is happening, meaning if i don't read FTL i'm definitely going to miss something i would've noticed in dub.

But w.e. to each his own right?

so your point = moot. both versions use females.

And the reason they do it is because Naruto for example is 12 years old. It easier for females to have a soft sounding voice than males. And a 12 year old who sounds 40 would be dumb.

Death Note is the only dubbed anime that I like, sue me. Mostly because of L's voice.

I'm going to start watching Attack on Titans and Darker than Black, maybe Sword Art and High School of the Dead which I hear are quiet good.
