In honor of 9/11, I thought that, on a site about fictional super heroes, it would be nice to have a place to discuss and show respect for those people who, through their bravery and courage, are heroes in the real world.

Here's a few to get us started:

  • The Passengers on United Airlines Flight 93: they fought back against the hijackers on 9/11, instead of crashing into the White House or the Capitol the plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. They lost their lives, but they saved many others
  • Malala Yousafzai: the Pakistani girl who was shot by the Taliban for promoting girls education. She survived and has continued to speak out
  • St. Maximilian Kolbe: he was a great man in many ways, but he's most well known for what he did in the Nazi concentration camps. After a prisoner escaped, the Nazis chose 10 random people to be executed. One of the men chosen had family waiting for him, and Maximilian offered to take his place

Who are some of your real world heroes?

Not one person contributed?

Well, I like your choices. I would like to add a couple more, although I could go on forever.

1) Dr. Elizabeth Bagshaw - One of the first female doctors in Canada and Medical Director of the country's first birth control clinic.

2) Audrey Hepburn - secretly helped raise money as a young teenager for the Belgium Forces, plus her humanitarian work later in life.

3) Irena Sendler - Nurse who smuggled out over 2500 Jewish babies out of the Ghetto during World War II. She tried to get in contact with their parents but most were gassed and when caught, had both her arms and legs broken by the German Army of the time.

And by extension, Denzel Washington.

And Morgan Freeman. Because Morgan Freeman.

May get a little hate for some of the people on this list but...

Dalai Lama- Promotes actual peace all over the world and progression.

Angelina Jolie- Does actual work for third world country children, aparted of various humanitarian efforts.

Malcom X- Gave his life to promote and empower the African American race (although by any means but still none the less)

Martin Luthor King Junior- Promoted the equality of all races and encouraged a peaceful approach. Showing how powerful peace can truly be.

Pope Francis- Newest pope of the vatican who points out the corruption in his own church.

Good parents in general- People who are there for their children and raise them right.

Good teachers- Teachers who do their best to actually make other jobs possible out of the sheer love of what they do

Most of all

Other Nameless heroes- All the people who do heroic things and do not get recognized for all that they do. The cops who stay straight and just, the firemen who stick their necks out for people, the surgeons and doctors who save lives daily (especially in third world countries), people who genuinely try to help out people in third world countries out of the kindness of their hearts and the regular average man and woman passerby who happens to see someone in trouble, such as about to die from an accident they were in or trapped under a train, or someone passed out in the street, and decide to lend them a hand.

Iggy Azalea.

The almighty King Venus, I must say out of concern that your obsession for Iggy Azalea has been unhealthy these past weeks. ^^

Well if you consider her to be your hero, then I respect that. :)

Very solid list. Batman should be higher though!

A few of my own:

  • George Washington
  • Dwight Eisenhower
  • Abraham Lincoln
  • Major Richard Winters
  • MSgt Leroy Petry
  • And a personal, very personal, one: SMSgt Dave Cross. A mentor to me and leader second to none.
