I have been checking the new lately (something I usually avoid) and can´t stop noticing how overdramatic, ridiculous and drama-queen-ish they are turning?
Is it something of the times? The world is really ending? Or the need to capture the attention of the public is so high that they need to squeeze every bit of drama they can reach?
Press too overdramatic?
There is such a thing as news press?!?!?!? Holy crap I thought they were just elements of fiction!!!! Weren't they all just acting out or something?!?

Bingo
Before the 24 hour news cycle it wasn't so bad. But since then its just slowly going down hill, and it doesn't help that the classic forms of reporting (not even counting news papers) have a lot more to compete. The biggest is the internet, but they also have far more entertaining things to compete with and that in some way made them thing that the news should be entertaining over informative.
They need viewers just like any other tv program, they'll do what they can to make sure people watch.
@Luzhell: I know this is "old" to post now but to give a brief example of how over dramatic the press and media in general can be, allow me to relate this little tidbit I saw on the TV News ( I think it was CNN).
After the tornado hit Joplin, Missouri, as expected, news crews were all over the place. I watched as some "reporter" was talking, with his back to the camera, and holding a large branch in his left hand. He was rattling on about the effects of the tornado ( d'uh), and he dramatically turns around to face the camera, breaks the branch against the ground and says, "The tornado snapped these buildings and homes just like this branch". I wanted to find him and kick his sorry pathetic butt, because it was totally unnecessary to do, and just shows how insipid some people can be in front of the camera, whether its the press or anything else. I am just griping here but yes, the media can dramatize things that don't need dramatization.
Exaggerated, padded, embellished. just a few of the reasons I haven't watched it for a good long while.
Of course that's part of their job lol the media/press always overhypes, scares, goes nuts with things....
If there's a disease going on some place, the media will portray it as "end of the world news, stay away or die" lol
If there's someone against a minority politician, the media will portray it as "racism"
If they have nothing to write about, the media will target celebrities like Lohan, A-rod, Tiger etc because they have nothing else better to talk about....
To say the press/media is over dramatic is a sever understatement...and let's not forget biased half the time now.
