@nerx: I'm not sure if that's sarcasm or not. I don't know much about MMA but it's interesting to watch. If there was no way the fight could have been stopped then I guess we'll leave it at that. :]
@gambler: True, but we have seen fighters in less convincing positions who was "Not Allowed" to continue as well... so this is not a big deal to me. I was using the Rogers / Overeem fight to draw another example of a fighter getting stopped who was supposedly defending... though Rogers may have been in worse shape than Sonnen after the actually ref made the decision... B/C I don't remember Rogers jumping straight up after the call... but he was defending during Overeem's striking expose. Now Stephen Bonner is a beast though... his nature is to take a ton of punishment from the fights we have seen. Chael Sonnen probably can too... but he looked beat to me. No reason to have the guy get dominated for four more rounds or possibly finished with a serious injury when it's obvious Commentary or the WWE is next on his agenda.
Brock Lesnar was not disoriented... he was scared. Fear will make you fall on your ass and run when you are getting beat that bad... the stoppages are not going to always be consistent though... different refs... different judgment calls...different judges... you gotta expect inconsistency.

I'm sure I'm in the minority but Bisping wasn't really impressive IMO. The other guy he fought just tanked every single punch of his and was just sitting there waiting to be TKO'd but Bisping couldn't do it(maybe that's not his game, I don't really know), much like Phil Davis (but obviously not exactly the same). I get that some guys have solid chins and can take punches but eventually if you're an elite guy (besides GSP lol) you need to finish them off somehow. Also, it may have just been my eyes but Bisping looked mighty slow in that fight, sorta just plodded forward and took free shots on a guy below his level or uninterested.
Clearly it goes without saying, but Silva would absolutely tear that man apart, so hopefully he doesn't waste his time with that fight. MMA fighters should take advice from Sonnen and others, if you want a bigger fight just start trash talker.
@king_saturn: We can agree to disagree on the stoppage, but Brock was most definitely disoriented. Two minutes 33 seconds into the fight his back is to the cage and he stumbles forward for the most pathetic takedown I've ever seen. He trips and flops from one side of the ring to other falling down without ever having been touched. Cain then beats the sh!t out of him for another minute or so while he does nothing to intelligently defend himself.
I dont know why race is so important to you or why you continually use verbiage that if reversed would be deemed offensive. Seems childish.

kinda ruins the sport and pushes towards a WWE slope, we're here to see people fight. Not comedians, they entertain us indirectly.
It's entertainment, though, I'm not calling for everyone to do it because then it wouldn't be as special. Clearly there are some fighters who are not PPV draws, the general public finds them boring. Plus, look at Chael (both with Jones and Silva) and Diaz, both got fights they maybe shouldn't have because they were trash talking.
@xanni15: Helwani tried to push Weidman to do it once, it is too damn awkward. Some people are born for it, others are not. Personally i am a fan because of the smashing, if they want to talk there is MTV or some other reality tv channel elsewhere.
@nerx: I got ya, and I guess the case could be made that even with Chael's talking about Jones the fight really wasn't talked about that much. Yeah, Chael's probably the GOAT trash talker in the UFC so there's not another one of him coming.
Chael is kind of an actor. His persona, the sh!t talking one, is a character. He even admits it I believe. But its still a thing of beauty. Bisping's trash talk isnt even clever though. Its just obnoxious. If he weren't English it wouldnt be nearly as entertaining. The Diaz's are the apex. Nate flying the double fingers while choking a dude out was classic.

@nerx: Bisping is fake. I like him, he says some entertaining stuff, but always back tracks after the fight. He talks to pump himself up and when its over he's all hugs and high fives.

It's sad how much Boxing has fallen off... the Middleweight Champ in Boxing Sergio Martinez fights and no one cares at all... I mean Boxing got completely flushed out by UFC action... what makes it even sadder is that the Bisping / Belcher fight was actually about as good as the S.Martinez / M. Murray fight...
@king_saturn: I saw HBO had a boxing event on last night and my first thought wasnt, "who's fighting?" It was, "How dumb do you have to be to schedule your event the same time as the UFC?" Although it was free so maybe they were banking on that.
