I heard tearing sounds coming from outside in the garden where my rabbit was playing, I saw the neighbour's cat has violently mauled it to death and there was blood everywhere, I scared it off but now my rabbit is no longer alive, what should I do? Is it possible to sue my neighbours?
My rabbit was murdered
I doubt you can sue but you may be able to have the cat removed from the neighborhood if you can make a case.
Put a bullet in the cat and call it even.
This too, depending on where you live you may be well within your legal right to shoot it if it's on your property.

I will try this thank you
@mkgod: And if it is legal to shoot the cat if it's on your property, than leave a trail of cat food to your porch and do what needs to be done.
@mkgod: Just speak about it with your neighboors. Cats are natural hunters.
Shudda had a cage for the rabbit or not let it outside, can't really blame the cat for doing what is its natural instinct. It's a sad thing to happen but it's natural

you two are messed up in the head for wanting to kill the cat...it did what cats do. Kill rodents.
Anyhow, it is well withing your rights to sue them. Depending on their financial status you could get a decent amount of money from it. But to me that feels like you never gave a **** about the bunny and now you are after money. But that is just me.
Eat the Cat.

It's quite natural for humans to have a need for a revenge, in fact, that's one of the main reasons why no animal ever evolved to specialise in hunting humans.

it's true that animals hutn for necessity, but when i see cats hunting mices, it's like if they are hunting for sport.

Exactly!
Sorry about your rabbit but leave the cat be.
Vengeance is never a good solution.
I don't know where you are from but here there are leash laws. People aren't supposed to have their pets roaming the streets. If you capture the cat, the humane society will come pick it up. If it has a tag, the owners will be called and probably pay a fine to pick it up. If no tag, the cat will most likely be put to sleep unless the owners care enough to search for it.
But the only one who really pays the price in that scenario is the cat, who was only doing what is in its nature.

The problem with vengence is that sometimes, it consumes you and it's almost impossible to let it go. For example; it's kida hard not want to murder he heck out of someone who raped and killed your boyfriend/girlfriend. I would be pretty mad if my pet (i don't consider my pets, pets.... more like family members.) I would be very pissed off. but since it was another animal that caused it's death, i would be less psised off.
Find the cat, late at night when it's out and about. Sneak up behind it, grab it by the fur and scream "I AM VENGEANCE, I AM THE NIGHT, I AM BATMAN."
When it gets to your garden again just kill it. But I doubt you have the balls for it.
Unless you are coward and use a gun.
Should I use lube as well?
Get another rabbit and watch it closer when he's outside or keep it inside your house inside a cage, as most people do who own a bunny. It's natural to grieve the loss of a loved one, but just let it pass and get another rabbit. You can tell your neighbor that their cat got into your yard and got to your bunny. I don't think you have a civil recourse in this matter, so don't try to launch a lawsuit, as the filing fee would be $450 which is about the most you'd get, if you had a case; you probably wont be awarded any monetary damages; your neighbor might notice your lawsuit and settle with you, but, if they lawyer up, than you're probably wasting your time; the summary judgment process is harsh in the court system; this is so because the attack by the cat was natural; had your neighbor done something bizarre that resulted in your rabbit's death, than you might have a better shot at a civil action, but doubtful even than; who knows, maybe you can get them to admit that they released their cat on your rabbit; it depends on how long you had your rabbit and was keeping it in your garden; if it was 3 years or more, than this may be suspicious.
@marvelicious: You sure know a low about killing cats bro... But you're advice is helpful none the less. But I still think I should use lube so it goes in easier

Always use lube, you may need to wrap the cat tight in duck tape as well depends on how small it is.
Of course, you can sue. This is America. You can sue if you don't like the look of your neighbor's house paint. The question is how far are you willing to take your case and what are you looking for as compensation? As stated above, the financial costs outweigh any potential gains.
I suggest you get a dog. A big dog.
Good luck with your vengeance.
I think he needs to call this guy.

Well, as the laws go, you are resposible for your dangerous properties. Including pets and cars. He can sue for emotional pain. The main question here is how much money do the neighbours have. If he wants money as a reward it is not worth it. But if he demands punishment then suing is the way to go. But you are right. Pets are just pets. He should get over it.
Wait what, why the need of lube? He aint gonna have sex with the cat is he?
I think he might.

Vengeance does consume you. It's figthing negativity with negativity. It is an unhappy path to take. And once you claim your vengeance, there is no real satisfation because it cannot undo what had already been done.
I blame @humanrocket
Not to be a dick, but it's kinda your fault if you left the rabbit on its own outside....
Anyway, check your local property laws. You might be well within rights to shoot the cat if it's on your property.
If not, track down the owners of the cat and send them a bill for a new rabbit. Or call animal controll and report it as a stray.
People saying to kill the cat are stupid. A cat saw a pest and attacked it. It's up to the owner to take care of their animal leaving a helpless bunny outside by itself is on you. Sorry to hear that is died I don't wish a pets death on anyone, but killing another persons pet knowingly is wrong and they will sue you for it (especially if you lead it to your house with cat food SMH). Next time do the following.
- If you have to have the rabbit outside by itself make sure it's properly caged. There are other dangers to rodents other than cats (like hawks) that will swoop down and get it. Having it properly caged prevents it's harm.
- Keep an eye on him, leaving him unattended outside and your asking for something to happen.
I know you're upset but just try to keep a clear head, two wrongs don't make a right.
