It's that time of the year.

Since I am stationed at Fort Hood, Texas and my wonderful girlfriend is at home waiting for me.

So I am deciding to propose and what better that use the way I know best

I am planning to mail that to her. With the ring taped where the Lantern ring is drawn. I am a horrible artiest, but she has no idea.

I hope you all had a great valentines day.

Are you nuts?!?  You're planning on sending a crayon drawing through the mail to propose?  Like opening an envelope is supposed to be romantic?  This is the moment you want her to remember for the rest of her life?  I'm not exactly an incurable romantic myself (did you see the valentine's day post?) but even I can see, dude, this fizzles.  I implore you, rethink this strategy.

Okay, you know her better than I; maybe... she might be into... she may be desperate enough that... Dude, think of something else.  Please.

That's sweet but it looks cheap...no offense

When you are getting ready to go over seas and can't go home, trust me, it'll do wonders.

@Liko: Are you insinuating that you don't think she'll wait for you without the promise of marriage?  Or that, because you'll be shipping out soon you can't wait to make romantic dreams (yours as well as hers) a reality?  Why not just request a 3 day pass and hitch up in Vegas with a paper cigar band as a ring?  Or... you could wait until an appropriate time, plan it out and do it right.  Which story would you prefer to tell the kids and grand kids?
#17 Posted by inferiorego (28313 posts) - - Show Bio

I'm just worried about the ring being taped to a comic and put through the mail system, for your sake.

Maybe it's because I don't trust anyone.

It's sentimental, personally, I'd rather be proposed to this way more than the traditional "we met in this spot" or a dinner.

@YoungJustice: How about setting it up with his parents, and hers, to come home when she thinks he's deployed; her folks take her to an unsuspecting public place full of strangers; unobtrusive camera phones ready; he walks in; she cries; he drops to one knee, tiny box in hand...

Later, dinner and drinks with both sets of parents...

Later, still, no mom or dad within earshot...

Ever consider postponing marriage until all US citizens can legally marry whom they love?

Ever consider that this thread has nothing to do with any of that?

Seriously, the guy is talking about using an unconventional method to propose to his girlfriend. You've already stated your opinions on his decision several times in this thread. Why must you turn this into a thread to advance a political/personal agenda?

#28 Posted by Ellie_Knightfall (4820 posts) - - Show Bio

I think it's utterly adorable.

I always find it curious when someone I haven't addressed interjects to tell me, essentially, to mind my own business.  Personal agenda?  How can it be when I'm not looking to marry?  Just a reminder that what you take for granted as a joyous event, many are prohibited from in what amounts to a legalized form of discrimination.  When equal rights are a reality for all, then I will stop reminding you that it isn't a reality yet.

This.

Like *significant other's name* the ring may have chosen me, but my heart has chosen you. I want to share my sector with you for the rest of our lives.

In Brightest Day, in Blackest Night,

with you is where my love will always be,

whether home or overseas,

*her full name* will you marry me?

@satyrgod: You're not helping the OP at all. In fact, you're just derailing the thread. If you want to make a stand for gay marriage, then start another thread for it.

@Shotgun
My original post here was my recommendation and it was intended to be helpful.  Your complaining about me is what is derailing the thread.  If you want to make a stand against equal marital rights, you start a new thread.  Should you want to continue this discussion further, please feel free to PM me.

I consider everything marriage to be very heavy FUBAR.

Although there is this girl, and probably a lot more in the future....I find it better to not get involved in other people's lives; moreover, if it is "till death do us part."

How was asking people not to marry until everyone can legally marry supposed to be helpful to the OP? All you have done is deride him and discourage his original plan. You were the one who derailed the thread first, and I am merely notifying you of this very fact.

Edit: Do not try to pretend otherwise and please try not to regurgitate my own words. It shows that you lack creativity.

Your accusations are becoming onerous.  My original post was either late on 2/15 or early 2/16, followed by a second post a few minutes later.  I've already explained the post to which you are referring.  Your issue seems to be that you resent my 'interrupting an otherwise joyous occasion' with the reminder that equal rights are not enjoyed by all.  This thread is being derailed by your accusations and my rebuttal, this stupid argument that I suggested you PM me to prevent but you insist on taking public.  I mention equal rights at the engagement party and you try to turn it to a mob scene.  You want to respond, PM me.  Let's take the discussion outside and leave this thread.

That's a really cute idea! Best of luck to you!

However, before you do it, does your girlfriend like superheroes? I only ask, because if I proposed to my very-non-comic-reading wife in this manner, she might have said no. Or at least questioned why I went that route after she said yes.

I'm personally a fan of making huge moves like this in person, but given your circumstances, I can understand. Maybe wrap the comic in brown paper with a note saying to Skype you before opening it? That way you could see her reaction in person. This is a moment the two of you should share, even if circumstances limit that to being over a web cam.

No matter what your final plans end up being for your proposal, I hope she says yes and that you return safely from your stint overseas.

what if a citizen loves a cat or a dog or an action figure or Thor or Minerva?

your sentence should be - any adult citizen can legally marry any other

also, why only US citizens? why not every human in the world? see we can all play this game too

On the topic at hand, I hope everything went well @Liko. not the way Id do it, but maybe that's because not mayn people i know are into comics, so if your significant other is into green lantern, then why not? love is love and if it's true, no one will care about how it was done, they will only care that it was done and it lasted

Yes. Yes I will. Seriously though, the thread is about the guy and his proposal not arguing semantics.
