I am not a fan of hip-hop music but every now and then there are some tunes which come to my attention which really strike a chord. I wanted to put a few of them together in one thread in the hope of getting some similar suggestions from other users.

There are some others which are hip-hop influenced but these are a good sample of what I am talking about.

The response was cut off. Why didn't you put Rage on there. Marc has bars.

I generally don't like rap or hip-hop but I wonder if by liking the songs I posted above it actually becomes no longer a true statement that I don't like rap/hip-hop.

In other words are the songs I posted considered rap/hip-hop? I called them "inspired" because I am not certain they qualify to "purists".

If they are then that is cool and I would like to find similar music.

Rage definitely qualifies.

I wasn't sure anyone would read this and I wasn't sure it would even post with all the changes from the CV transition so I kept it to a bare minimum.

My fave Rage tune.

Why don't you just listen to a few rappers? I can recommend you some stuff I think you may like. Not all rap is what's on the radio. Which is what people tend to think, but I mean there are some emcee's who rap about comic books, some people who play instruments and spit. You just gotta get in where you fit in.

I am looking for some suggestions. I am trying to break the mold and expand my horizons a little.

I am an old dude. I was in 7th grade when Run DMC got together with Aerosmith.

And I also like some of the Beasties stuff and think that Chuck D has the purest voice. But mostly like the power of metal combined with the rhythm of hip-hop.

He sampled Metalcore band Underoath with this song, he also went on tour with them where they preformed it together.

Since you're an older guy you may like Nas' new album "Life is good" It's about raising kids, growing up, divorce, love, loss and being in a good place. Here's a song he did with Amy Winehouse before she passed, really classy and kinda somber.

Your first vid didn't go through.

The second with Amy Winehouse just isn't my cuppa tea. I'm looking for war not smooth. But thanks for the recommendations.

Strange. Your first link eventually went through. =/

This one just doesn't have enough force or drive or power. I need it to rock as well as flow.

Absolutely. The X-ecutioners vid I posted above was originally a collaboration with Linkin Park. As I said above I didn't post them all due to space, etc.

Also, most of the mainstream Linkin Park material falls into the Nu-metal genre and isn't specifically grounded in rap or hip-hop although a good deal of their "b side" stuff is.
