The world is not going to end. People have been saying the world was going to end since the beginning of time.
Really, the only thing you're doing is stressing and wasting a month or so until
I lived through Y2K. I lived it, father partially believed it. Nothing happened (aside from one or two minor technical glitches).
Honestly, I've been hearing less and less about this the closer the date comes - probably because people want to distance themselves so that, if/when they are proven wrong, they don't want people to remember that they once believed it.
When the world-ending scare in the next twenty years (something about 2030.. something) comes about, and if my kids ever question it, I will give them a list of all the doomsday bullcrap I survived (including the apocalypse BS regarding May of last year).
Also, if it makes you feel better:
1. The Mayans never said the end of the world.
2. They couldn't predict their own destruction. I doubt they can predict the end of the world.
Also, my computer calendar only goes to 2099. Mayans could have just stopped there thinking "won't be around to see it. Let someone else update it."
And... cue Spanish.
