Basically back in 2011 I fell into a deep depression with all the world is ending rumors going around. People are still saying in December(next month) the world will end as the Mayans predicted. I know it may not seem like something to get depressed over, but I did. Lately I've seen more people talk about it and I'm starting to feel more depressed. I don't have any motivation to go on I am 15 years old. What's the point of trying if the world is just gonna end next month? Please tell me what you think is gonna happen will the world end or wont it? Thanks.

You shouldn't give up. Currently, you are thinking of worst case scenario. Think of the possible scenario that Mayan's were wrong. I mean, this prophecy is coming from people who thought that sacrifice was okay. I have a 3 month year old cousin, and every now and then, I think of the end of the world. I can't bear the thought of him dying. So, I have to think to myself, what are the odds of this happening, and they are slim. So, please don't give up.

All I can say is google "How many times have the world ended?" and youll find hundreds off occasions, but we are still here arent we? Dont worry, people like to predict doom but theres not a chance in hell somethings actually gonna happen.. Just an excuse for people to get really drunk.

And even if it were ending, wouldnt you rather be happy your last days on earth? You are very young, go out for some fresh air and have fun, theres no reason to worry about something you can never know for sure, youll just waste your precious time feeling bad about something that most likely wont happen.

The world is not going to end. Period. Now go live your life.

They actually said the world would change in how we view it, a common misconception people think the world will end,

The Mayans didn't take leap year into consideration... Or even said the world would end, their calender just happens to end there. I think some people are just wanting the world to end to have something to worry about...

The world ending is just one possibility that people have assumed. Another is that it will be the beginning of a spiritual enlightenment according to some people.

The Mayans Did Not Believe The World Would End....It Is Simply A Misconception.

As A Matter Of Fact, A Better Age Would Emerge After December, 21st......I Do Not Know How, But That Is What The Mayans Believed.

The Only Thing That One Must Put Thinking Time To Is The Mayan God Bolon Yokte. This God Is Set To Return On This Date, Nobody Knows Why........But He Was One Of Those Responsible For The Creation Of Humanity..........The Show "Ancient Aliens" believes that Bolon Yokte Is An Ancient Alien Being........Not Much Is Known About This God, Though (Blame It On The European Invaders).

But Do Not Worry, Worlds Do Not Simply End......Seriously. There Is Always A Purpose.......If The World Ends, You Will Know What It Is.

From Personal Experiences, I Have Had Multiple Strong Depressions About Many, Many Things In My Life. These Where About Things Ranging From My Existence To The Universe. I Am Having One Right Now........But I Have Made A Realization.......

:) Just Find And Enjoy The Things, Small Or Big, In Your Life That Matter.........No World Ending Can Take That :)

I'm only 13, and I don't bother with the "world ending" stuff. I mean, the possibilities of a sudden tragedy of our planet being struck by a random meteor is astronomical, incalculable. Who are we to define when and how we will perish?

You think the world is going to end??

I recently fell into depression that I was losing more and more of myself, and then came out of it realizing I have been the same I've always been (just that I need to pass my time with things OTHER than the computer).

People only think that the world is going to end BECAUSE OF A MOVIE!!!!!!

If that movie hadn't come out, barely anybody would give a damn what the mayans think.....sigh

The 2012 meme has been around long before the movie.

@PlasticBag: Seek help. Seriously. We can hang around here all day and tell how the world's not going to end and how the whole thing is a stupid misconception and we may even be able to pull you out of it, but if that's all it takes to send you down the hole then there are probably some far deeper issues there. Talk to people. Friends, family, hell, a shrink if nothing else. Go out, see new things, do new things, fight it. You can only be unmotivated if you let yourself be. It may seem like I'm overreacting a bit here but depression is serious business and it's very important not to mess around with it.

The world's not going to end man. All the people before me already explained why. You've got a whole, rich, fulfilled life ahead of you and that's a fact. It's too early to start giving up on it.

Yes, the world is ending. As you all know, I'm a renowned world-class scientist, and I have discovered that the core of our planet is unstable.

Unfortunately, I don't think we have enough time to evacuate Earth, but my wife and I have built a small spacecraft that will safely transport our son to another planet.

I wanna thank everyone for commenting and for all the support. I feel that I just need to stop thinking about it. TBH the thing that always got me was over thinking that I won't grow up to have a future, to be able to live my life to the fullest. That was what made me fall and not want to continue. Now I see though, I shouldn't worry about something that isn't 100% all the way. Just live my life. @SmashBrawler: Who are you?

I remember feeling similarly when I was about your age in regards to nuclear war. I pretty much was just waiting for it to happen and running through my mind different scenarios in how I could keep people I love alive. I think it as a lot to do with the fear of growing up - realizing the world isn't that safe happy place we believed it to be when we are really small.

Good for you for intending to push past it and not focus on the idea of the world ending. Really and truly, it isn't. You and I will have a nice conversation this upcoming December 23rd about what we hope the new year will bring into our lives. :)

I have two reassuring things for you...

1. The world wont end in December because I say so. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about. I've been predicting that the world wont end for a long time now, and I've never, ever, been wrong. =) I can also assure you, from a scientific point of view, this prediction is bullshit. (yes, that's the technical term for it)

2. Look here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_dates_predicted_for_apocalyptic_events

There have been lots, and lots, of end-of-the-world predictions in the history of the world. It happens all the time. And they are never right. Not once, ever. In fact, people who predict the end of the world are always idiots. So, this, is the second way you know the world wont end.

You're safe, I guarantee it.

Yup. You would figure that after the first dozen or so failed predictions, that these types of people might realize how dumb they are and move on to something else. But noooooo. And the unfortunate thing is that they always convince others to sell all their stuff, or become horribly depressed, or even commit suicide. Remember when a bunch of people killed themselves because some idiot convinced them that a UFO coming behind the Hale-Bopp comet was going to take them to heaven or something?

#28 Posted by Slicer (108 posts) - 6 months, 6 days ago - Show Bio

@WillPayton: Uh...what year was that?

Also, we all know that Darkseid's going to destroy the Earth, so until we start hearing about a planet called Apokolips, we're safe.

#29 Posted by JediXMan (22968 posts) - 6 months, 6 days ago - Show Bio

The world is not going to end. People have been saying the world was going to end since the beginning of time.

Really, the only thing you're doing is stressing and wasting a month or so until

I lived through Y2K. I lived it, father partially believed it. Nothing happened (aside from one or two minor technical glitches).

Honestly, I've been hearing less and less about this the closer the date comes - probably because people want to distance themselves so that, if/when they are proven wrong, they don't want people to remember that they once believed it.

When the world-ending scare in the next twenty years (something about 2030.. something) comes about, and if my kids ever question it, I will give them a list of all the doomsday bullcrap I survived (including the apocalypse BS regarding May of last year).

Also, if it makes you feel better:

1. The Mayans never said the end of the world.

2. They couldn't predict their own destruction. I doubt they can predict the end of the world.

Also, my computer calendar only goes to 2099. Mayans could have just stopped there thinking "won't be around to see it. Let someone else update it."

And... cue Spanish.

I knew about it a month prior. At the time the apocalypse was supposed to begin, I was in a movie theater seeing the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie... which I guess was the end of the world. Man that movie sucked...
