I've been slowly getting into Anime and have watched some of the popular ones like Akira and Ghost in a Shell. What else is worth checking out?

I'm not an Anime fan, but I do enjoy some. Just got into Code Geass.

Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Astro Boy, Naruto (Skip the fillers.), DBZ Kai (Uncensored), Yu Yu Hakisho, FMA, Deadman Wonderland, Sailor Moon, Ruroni Kenshin, The Gundams, Beserk, Gurren Lagann, And One Piece...

That will give you an idea of what the anime industry is if you were to watch all of those.

The Berserk anime is crap. The only really good part is the ending. You should read the manga of Berserk.

One Piece is amazing and won't waste your time. Naruto and Bleach are pretty good too. If you wan't an inspirational one with alot of fights, try Hajime No Ippo.

Blue Exorcist is a very good, short, and unique shonen anime. It definately has one of the the best OST's.

Fairy Tail is similar to One Piece, and it also has a great OST. It's very light hearted with little blood and many Nakama Power ups.

Try those first.

If you like superhero stories, give Tiger & Bunny a shot. I know the title sounds fluffy, but it's not.

Oh and FMA brotherhood and Trigun are two big ones recently for me. All of Trigun is on Netflix, and a little over half of Brotherhood is on there.

Must see for me in no particular order are as follows; Ninja Scroll, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Vampire Hunter D, Princess Mononoke, Neon Genesis, Berserk, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Jin-Roh Wolf Brigade, Fist of the Northstar, Basilisk, Samurai Champloo, Karas, Gundam(there are a lot of Gundam series), Devilman, Gun X Sword, Sword of the Stranger, The Animatrix, Blood: The Last Vampire, Afro Samurai, Spriggan, Patlabor, Appleseed and Macross to name a few.

Forgot Big O, Guyver, Hellsing and Samurai 7

A lot of great choices here but seeing as I've not been into anime in almost a decade I can only add Hellsing Ultimate.
