Movies you liked as a kid but hate now?

2 things inspired me to write this. First, a thread entitled "Characters you used to like but not anymore"...Or something like that. Second of all, was my recent watching of this little movie

This was a movie I LOVED as a kid, to the point that I asked my dad to watch it again and again. So naturally, after seeing that it would be on Disney Channel, I decided to rewatch it...With less than succesful results. The dialogue is awful, cheesy and unfunny, the story sounds like something that a drunk 4 year old would come up with (a.k.a the creator of Son of the Mask...I'm not even kidding, check the IMDB page), plot holes are everywhere, everyone is a MORON, none of the dogs comes close to having a personality. The only good things are Tobey Maguire, (Who plays the main character) and the villain Mr. Tinkles, who I will admit contributes some of the only funny jokes in the entire movie. The Warner Bros. cartoon only made me wish I was actually watching a real Warenr Bros. cartoon. Seriously, why don't I just go watch some Batman: TAS? So, yeah...2001's Cats & Dogs is the movie I loved as a kid, BUT HATE NOW!

This is going to sound weird, but Cheech and Chong movies..... I use to sneak and watch them as a kid, and as an adult I worked in a head shop for four years so I feel there is nothing funny about stoner film when you deal with them all day.

God almighty, I'm embarrassed to even admit that I used to like that piece of f***ing sh*t.

What a miserable excuse for a film series, I'd rather watch the entire Twilight Series and the Justin Bieber movie than one Harry f***ing Potter film.

I picked up the Dolph Lundgren Punisher movie from the 80's a few years back in the $5 bin. I knew I should have bought a slurpee instead.

Son of the Mask..... sorta. I watched that whole movie thinking at some point Jim Carry would show up, GYP!!! But even at the time I knew it wasn't as good as the original but now it full on blew.

I probably sneaked down stairs after my parents were in bed and watched it on tv, I also had a friend growing up whose parents were very lenient, I grew up with 5 older sisters.... I don't remember how I saw it the first time exactly, but it was likely one of those. That movie is laughable. It has the production quality of a made for TV movie, despite being "based on a true story" with real people, the whole cast of characters behave like cliches from any other movie you have seen. The majority of the movie is boring except for the ending of course, where the flashback of his experience takes place, which is totally made up for the movie, if you read about the guys actual experience that the movie is based on it was nothing like what takes place in the film......the whole lure of the film is that its "based on a true story" which in Hollywood mean its 20% factual and 80% made up, but in the actual case of this film its more like 98% made up and 2% true. I can't even watch it anymore.

@cattlebattle: I had a very similar upbringing as a 90's kid, but I doubt I would've had any interest in watching it as a young child. I had to be at least a tween before I saw it.

Meh. I don't see the criticisms you've listed myself, but the inaccuracies are true enough. I just don't care. I like it because it's an entertaining story, not because it's an accurate adaptation of a book alleged to be a true account of a close encounter of the 4th kind.

I never liked Toby Maguire as Spider-man

He gave up being Spider-man because it too hard (yeah it happens in the comics but it was stupid there too)

Him losing his powers then regaining them was also stupid

The fights were full of PIS ( he can stop speeding trains and throw 10 ton walls but can't break Doc Ocks glasses with a punch? k )

Speaking of Doc Ock, I wish there was more focus on him, his character was way more interesting than anybody else's by far

Harry was just annoying instead of menacing or sympathetic or whatever they were going for

There are a few smaller things but that covers the majors

All that said, I didn't hate the movie. It had a lot of good stuff too, and I know people love it, but I just think it's overrated, and is definitely NOT one of the best CBM in my opinion. At least it is still much better than Spider-man 3

Can't think of anything, I watched more tv than movies when I was young.
