E.T comes to mind.
Movies that have not aged well?
Star Wars original trilogy
This too.
Scarface.
Casablanca
T2
Top Gun
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Hell no. Not because of fanboyism, but there are lots of movies today with CGI worse than T2.
Star Wars original trilogy
I was afraid to say it.
TMNT 2. The first one was for the most part darker but still light hearted, Raph gets his ass kicked, they weren't afraid to throw "damn" around, it was the perfect mix. TMNT2 seemed goofier, still watchable though !
Star Wars original trilogy
@mandarinestro: There was nothing noteworthy about it apart from the effects.
People are putting T2, Raiders of he Lost Ark and Star Wars on this list?
BLASPHEMY!!!
All those movies are amazing and completely stand the test of time.
Though I know it was never really regarded as a good movie, I'll put Batman Forever on the list. I saw BF when I was a teenager and remembered it as a deeply flawed but fun action movie with two good scenes for every bad scene. I tried watching it again last night and only lasted twenty minutes. The only good part was Jim Carry as Riddler. Most of his moments worked. Everything else made me cringe.
T-2!?! There are way worse cgi on movies today.
T-2 wrote the book on seemless cgi at the time, Aliens as well. Both Cameron films.
I don't see much fanboyism for the actual movie, aside from myself lol. maybe a termintor t-800 or t-1000 though.
@marcus_halberstram: "Not aging well" refers to filming techniques that have been rendered obsolete by modern technology eg silent black and white Charlie Chaplin films from the 1930s because we now have technology to film sound. Sure, T2 isn't the best action movie ever, but by modern standards it still is a good movie which makes good use of CGI, 20 years ago.
And besides, you can't judge it from the plot because making movie plots never change because of time, only because of different directors and public demand.
@mandarinestro: Nicely put.
@darthmanhunter: Thanks
Also judging a movies plot is also always open for interpretation and opinion. Like I personally love the Star Wars original trilogy and alot of people dont, but Theres no arguing it looks dated. Lol
Scarface.
Casablanca
T2
Top Gun
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Hell no. Not because of fanboyism, but there are lots of movies today with CGI worse than T2.
i'm sorry but no today's CGI isn't worse than the T2 CGI. Don't get me wrong, T2 is one of my favorite movies of all time, but the CGI isn't good....
Blade Runner.
Scarface.
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Git out!
@thecowwasdelirious: You need to watch more movies, friend.
http://whatculture.com/film/10-terrible-cgi-moments-in-high-budget-movies.php
@tomlikesfries: It's true! BR looks so bad now! Not saying it's bad, because I like the novel. But ugh.
@mandarinestro: you said today, most of these movies are from like 2003.
Also, i personally think there's nothing wrong with the amount of movies i've seen.
@thecowwasdelirious: You are judging a 21st Century movie with the same standards as twenty years ago? Lol.
@tomlikesfries: It's true! BR looks so bad now! Not saying it's bad, because I like the novel. But ugh.
@mandarinestro: Aging badly doesn't only refer to dated filming techniques and bad special effects.Pop culture references, soundtrack, acting, dialogue, pacing and plot are also considered in deciding how well a film has aged.
I never said it's a bad movie.
@mandarinestro: True, T2:s CGI was revolutionary at the time, but that isn't what we're arguing about, we're arguing about if the CGI actually looks good today, which it doesn't.
@mandarinestro: Jurassic Park had better CGI. It came out in 93 :P
Original Star Wars movies
Original TMNT films
Jurasic Park 1
Original Robocops
Certain scences in Spiderman 1
@marcus_halberstram: But acting didn’t really change in the last 30-40 years, for action movies that is. Actors from the 1970s maybe better than some of today's Hollywood stars, and vice versa as well.
Pop culture references can be easily researched with little effort and understood. I was born in 1998 but I understood many 90s and 80s movies quite well.
Dialogue writing also didn't change much since 30-40 years ago.
Pacing, soundtrack, and plot are somewhat too subjective. It depends on personal preferences and the movie crew itself.
@mandarinestro: How has acting and dialogue not changed? Compare Linda Hamilton's performance to Emily Blunt's in Edge of Tomorrow or Edward Furlong's to Christian Bale's in TDK. The dialogue was bad, even for it's time. The performances weren't exceptional either.
I never said i didn't get the references or didn't understand the movie.
Everything except for special effects is subjective.
What movies do you consider dated?
@thecowwasdelirious: -_-
I said "there are lots of movies worse". I never said ALL of them were worse :P
@marcus_halberstram: A lot actually. 80s Robocop, 80s TRON, the very first Star Wars, 70s Superman to name a few. And obviously the WW2 era movies.
@mandarinestro: examples? I honestly can't think of a movie after T2 with worse CG
@marcus_halberstram: A lot actually. 80s Robocop, 80s TRON, the very first Star Wars, 70s Superman to name a few. And obviously the WW2 era movies.
Both Superman movies haven't aged that well IMO.
Godzilla Films
Thunderball
Star Wars Original Trilogy
Original Robocop Movies
I mean a lot of the 80's & 90's special effect films are not going to age well. Like the Jim Hanson puppet movies look like **** by today's standards. I just think it is what it is. I am sure we will make leaps and bounds in CGI and special effects to the point where even the Transformer Movies & Matrix special effects look like crap.
Godzilla Films
Godzilla films.
Even the 2014 one?
@ganon15: No silly
Wait....what do we mean by aging well? Of course Star Wars will look like sh!t special effects wise compared to any movie of today. That's a given. But the movies are still relevant today. So, IMO, they've aged well.
Even the 2014 one?
No you silly goose.
