I see what you mean by rock songs. Though that makes me think that you haven't heard of their pop songs either. Eleanor Rigby, Yellow Submarine, I Want To Hold Your Hand. Heard those ones? Today, they are known more of pop band because their greatest hits have been known to be pop songs, with catchy melodies like the Beach Boys.

First, at the time even those were considered rock, Elanor Rigby had an orchestra playing so thats not pop. It's like calling Elvis swing music, it might be considered that now but no at the time it was rock and roll and the beatles were the 'bad boys' of rock

I know what you mean. Elvis swinging his hips was considered offensive in the 50s. Though just because they have orchestra doesn't mean that they are not pop. Have a listen to Wonderwall by Oasis. It's not an orchestra but it's got cellos in it and that was still considered a pop song.

Yes, it may have called rock back then but they can still be considered pop because of their chart-topping hits (pop short for "popular"). Plus, look at their chords and their chord changes. Their vocal harmonies and melodies can be heard in those (annoying) boybands during the 90s and it is clear that The Beatles influenced them. What I'm saying is that I don't think they can be considered just rock. Just because they were the bad boys of the 60s doesn't necessarily make them rock; you have to look at the technical side of the music too.

You realized that they shaped most of 70's and 80's rock which highly influenced the 90's till now, it may be easy to write them off as just another 60's pop band, but any music u listen to today would not be there if not for the Beatles

I am not underestimating The Beatles and any of their contributions to music. I'll quote myself:

What I'm saying is that I don't think they can be considered just rock.

I'm a music junkie, and I know successful is a general term in the music business. KISS made money off everything, Beatles sold a butt-ton of records, U2 is still together and Led Zeppelin is having the biggest most demanded reunion in music history.

I think GnR should get an "honorable mention" b/c what they did with really only 1 album is astounding!

Also Red Hot Chilli Peppers should be mentioned.

It's KISS.

Whether you like them or not. They kicked some ass in the music industry.

or maybe the Beetles.

I'm thinking KISS just because of branding. But the Who are the most important to me. The energy, the raw power, smashing instruments, Pete Townsend, Keith Moon, Entwistle is a bass god! They're influence is so far reaching. Punk rock owes so much to the Who.

Of course i were kidding when i put the Backstreet Boys picture(they are not a "rock" band and despite having sold 130 millions, at least 10 other groups - all genres included- are more succesfull than them).

But i'm starting to doubt if the viners naming KISS are kidding too. How can you seriously believe KISS would own the title of most succesful rock group when the likes of Beatles, Rolling Stones, Queen, U2, Pink Floyd, Genesis are here ?

@superstay This. The Beatles were extremely experimental at some point, switching genres(particularly in their psychedelic years). Also, apart from the musical genre,i would have said the word "rock" also means the spirit of a band.

The Beatles weren't really 'Bad Boys'...that was the Stones......Unless we're talking about a more passive aggressive 'Bad'.
