most overrated video games of this decade

before i start i know i am going to be leaving about 100,000 games out but this is my opinion.

5. EVERY sonic game

i do not hate sonic but its no super mario bros its a decent side scroller at best.

the new sonic games......just no

4. battlefield 3

sure it has some impressive visuals but its not the second comng

not to mention the gameplay is painful and ohhhhhhhhh the fanboys

3. ARMA 2

this game got fame for being realistic

but that does not make it good it is glitchy has wayy to many bugs and frankly is not a good game at all

and dont tell me its a damn simulation i have heard enough of the Sh*t

2. NEW pokemon games

the last pokemon game i played was pearl.

the last good one was ruby

now its the same thing over and over.

What makes it overrated? Well, the fanboys. While they aren't as bad as CoD or Sonic fanboys, are they still bad. For starters, when the endermen came out, I mentioned they are very similar to the weeping angels from Doctor Who and I was flamed at even though the weeping angels did inspire the endermen in some way. There is nothing wrong with that. Second, when I saw Minecraft, I said to a fanboy as a joke "this looks like Lego the Game." and I again I got flamed at. Lastly, I was playing Team Fortress 2 and there was this server I was on where they started to talk about Minecraft and just because I wanted to talk, I said I wasn't a fan of Minecraft and what happened? If you guess I got flamed at then you are half right because one of those who flamed me was a admin I got banned. I am dead serious.

Another reason I hate Minecraft is Notch. Yes the creator. For the many years Shigeru Miyamoto has been making games, he has always been humble. His popularity has never gone to his head and he has never treated himself as a rockstar. Notch has made fewer games and he treats himself like a rockstar. Because of his popularity, he tends to say shit that many forgive when they shouldn't. Sometime last year Notch made a racist tweet. If many other developers made that tweet they would rip that developer apart. However, many defeated Notch by saying it was just a joke and that it wasn't him. He called out Fortress Craft on the 360 for being a rip-off, when his game is a rip-off (Yes, I went there because he went there). The man is a douchebag and I hate him.

Okay I know most of the reasons I think the games are overrated are because of not the game itself but the community like I said before, there is a difference between overrated and bad if you disagree with what I said here, remember these are my opinions. I am constatly reminded that Team Fortress 2 is overrated but what can I do?

Sonic isn't really hyped as the best thing ever most of the time and I think the games get fair ratings from most fans. Not to mention I don't agree with the generalization of the whole thing. It really doesn't make sense when you consider the amount of widely hated Sonic games.

Battlefield? Eh, not as highly rated as CoD and really it's an okay game. I don't buy into the hype but I can see why it's so widely enjoyed.

Never even heard of ARMA 2, probably not from the pool of game genres I check out.

Pokemon? Even the hardcore fans agree that the games are rehashes, but they're still fun little RPGs and there have been small changes be they bad or good. Once again, not a fan of the generalization.

Minecraft? You did a whole thread for this so I don't get why you feel the need to spend the most time on it. Either way while I agree it's quality really is a matter of taste and that it is a bit overrated by some, overall it's usually judged well for what it is.

The COD's and Halo.

Games like Far Cry 3 deserved way more respect.

I saw most of the list and was like 'Oh, no MC?" Then I scrolled down to number 1..

i think marvel vs capcom 3 was overrated too.

COD and Assassins Creed. Walking Dead is overrated in the fact that a lot of people have it as their game of the year (story is great I cried at the end) but it doesn't have enough gameplay or engaging enough gameplay.

Also the Resident Evil Franchise and Saints Row.

Underrated Games-Psychonauts (anything Tim Schafer), Elder Scrolls, Mirrors Edge, and Beyond good and evil

Bf4 hasn't come out yet I think you mean Bf3 which is a TON of FUN!

I really liked MUA 2 and I think that it's certainly underrated. The first game...eh not as much. It's a lot clunkier and the boss fights are pretty boring for the most part.

Not sure if I think it's better than the Batman games, but that's more of a matter of personal tastes(I'm not the biggest fans of games that play like MUA)

Assassins Creed Brotherhood and Revelations. (I loved 1 and 2)

Call of duty Modern warfare 2 (Again cod 4 modern warfare was really good)

64 player warfare with great team play and epic moments that make for great competitive and casual play. Can't ask for much more.

I'd disagree, BF3 is a great game and the best modern first person shooter out today IMO.

I liked the story for Marvel Ultimate Alliance, but Batman: Arkham City was more epic..the only thing I give credit for MUA is that I felt important as a player on trying to get the best possible ending (killing Nightcrawler, saving Senator Kelly, etc.)

Call of Duty is more overrated than those games put together.

The thing that gets me is that he said every Sonic game in this decade is overrated. I mean I guess he didn't see all those Sonic games that people hated.

Sonic 06 is one of the most horrible games of all time, Sonic is not overrated.

As for Minecraft:

Don't know where I got this from, must have popped into my head after something...

1) Art Style and Aesthetic:

A game like Minecraft wouldn't have got the amount of attention it did had it not been stylized. The world and all of it's inhabitants are squares. Think about it this way:

You are looking through your old games category, in 2016, and find yourself wanting to play Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. You pop open the case, insert the game into the dusty Gamecube, and start to play. The reminder of the games excellent visuals and pleasant look comes flowing back to you, and you think to yourself, "this game still looks great"

Now you're on a nostalgia high. You rummage through old video games, and find one that you loved: The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. You repeat what you did with Wind Waker, except with an Xbox, but find that the game has aged. Bad. The game's looks turn you off of your high and you're back to playing more Wind Waker.

2) Updates:

Minecraft was in Alpha in 2009. At that time, there was not much to do. I mean, you could build your towers and create a house, but the game was basically a sandbox with nothing to do. Fast forward to today, and Minecraft has been released and has many things you can do. Go build a house and live peacefully, or create a giant piece of art, or create anything you want, or go towards the game's "endgame" and try and fight the Ender Dragon. Even without mods, there is so much to do in Minecraft, you just need to have a bit of creativity.

3) Community:

As of December of 2012, 8.3 million digital copies of Minecraft have been sold on PC. Across all platforms it's sold 17.5 million copies. If you ever need a question answered, you could head over to the games extensive wiki, which is built by players like yourself. Or you could head over to the hundreds of forums and talk to others about what adventures you've had, or post pictures of that awesome recreation of Super Mario Bros World 1 Level 1 you did.

4) Mods:

Contrary to ______'s beliefs, modding your Minecraft does not mean cheating and does not mean "you aren't a REAL gamer". In fact, millions of people uses mods in Minecraft in order to make the game run smoother, or to get resources in order to build amazing creations, or to make the game just looks prettier. There are simple mods, such as making the game have new monsters in it, to making the game look quite gorgeous. On top of that, modding allows for people to share textures packs in order to make the game look even better, and with thousands of custom textures to choose from.

5) Adventures Galore:

This sort of falls under the category of "Mods/Community". However, it's a giant part of the game's appeal. Minecraft players will create custom maps for you to download, in what can range from being a simple Parkour maps to wide scale adventures that will take hours to play in one run. As someone who's only played Minecraft for a small amount of time, I have had the most fun playing inside of custom games, such as doing a map that has me getting out of a burning plane and then using resources found on the island to create a new plane for your getaway.

PS: I've played this game for 3 hours. The rest of this research was done from just searching Minecraft on Youtube and looking at videos to use.

PPS: I don't like this game. I just can't stand for when someone craps on a game that many others like. I do not own this game.

• Boss battles are supposed to be frustrating.

So, MUA>>>>Arkham City.

Arkham city is more acclaimed by reviews and gamers than MUA. Just throwing that out there.
