This news piece is a bit old but I thought it might spark some interesting conversation.

A whooping 25 billion hours, 2.5 million years, has been spent playing Call of Duty, the popular mostly-online shooter, since 2007. That is as long or longer than the entirety of human existence.

And a record-breaking 32.3 Quadrillion shots have been fired in CoD as of Nov 2013.

No Caption Provided

What do you think, Viners? Do you hold Call of Duty as one of the factors liable for the steady decline of Humanity, that is, if you consider humanity to be on the decline? What is your opinion on the popular shooter whose yearly releases have been the biggest Entertainment launches, surpassing even big Hollywood blockbusters?

Time well spent.

Well, it could've been better if it wasn't Call of Duty, but meh. Playing video games is ALWAYS a good investment of time.

You see, we wouldn't have a population problem if I was in charge. I'd just put all the COD players in camps...

@WarBlade539: Neither. Activision, Blizzard Entertainment, and Sierra Entertainment forms a corporate group. Activision-Blizzard is their holding company.

I'm sure if you accumulate the time that a decent amount of people do anything it'd probably create a seemingly obscene number.

I really don't understand why so many people like that franchise. Doesn't sound like time well spent to me. And yes, I have played Call of Duty games before.

@ryagan: Because little kids are easily entertained and it's simple enough to be played by almost anyone, Halo takes a little more effort and imagination as well as a number of fps games. I M O

@eisenfauste: Agreed. I'm not a fan of the FPS genre, but I still understand why Halo appeals to so many people. Call of Duty, however--I don't get it.

It's competitive. People like competitive games. And yes, CoD is not the greatest competitive FPS around and there are a hundred more Shooters that destroy CoD in every category that makes a great FPS. But it is still accessible enough that everyone can enjoy it.

CoD's 1-4 were fantastic and revolutionary in the FPS genre. And if you fine gentlemen considered yourself too sophisticated or skilled for CoD, why don't you face any good player or team in a basic 'Team Deathmatch' and put your money where your mouth is.

India. More specifically, North-East India. I am half North-East Indian and half Mongolian by heritage. And I think I have a bit of Indonesian in me too.

They call me a fruit-salad, lol.

How exactly do they calculate that? And no I don't blame COD for anything,. Humanity is on the decline in some areas, but better in others.

How much time have people spent watching movies, sports games, or their favorite television shows?

Playing a game isn't any different. By your logic we should have lost faith in humanity a long, long time ago.

It's not the fact it's a game at all. It's the fact it's Call of Duty.

What can I say I am guilty of some of those times.Met some good friends from all around the world.I was in quite a few clans and got some money from it.

Call of Duty 2 Started it all.Still to me IMO the best of the lot you did not have no care package to steal or help you out.Bring your skills and lets go.

Man that feeling of winning prizes and thrash talking your rivals in gaming.

You still have faith in it?

Occasionally I'll meet someone that gives me some faith. Then I hear something like this and it disappears again.
