I remember when the guy in norway killed all those people, some people were actually blaming his addiction to world of warcraft. Unbilievable.
Kid Murders his Family, Assassin's Creed gets Blamed for It
Remember how Osama Bin-Larden thought it'd be fun to destroy two towers back in 01?
Well you can blame Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for that.
Rest in peace for the whole family (yes, the kid included). Blaming the game for this tragedy is stupid though.
Video game themselves are never inherently bad, its always the customers. Lack of ability to cope with the game is the fault of the boy, and whoever his caretakers were. He probably shouldn't have been playing the game to begin with. To be honest, his caretakers should have more blame put on them than the boy himself.
There's plenty of people who play Assassin's Creed, and they're not mental enough to kill their family, commit suicide, and so on. Product isn't to blame.
For me personally, I have to know. If the games are truly responsible for horrible acts that are committed. I ask, why don't they look up the age rating?
They want to blame GTA IV for a crime a 12 year old committed but that 12 year old shouldn't even be playing a rated M for Mature game.
At the end of the day it starts at home. You want to blame the game fine but who bought him that game. Why even rate games if parent don't bother to follow them.
I'd love to have this discussion in person because I know I can't through my mobile device.
Its not the games fault. They made sure there was an age rating on the box, which is as much as they need to do. Its up to the people who are caring for the kid to stop him from playing games or watching material not suitable for his age group.
Yeah.. assassin's creed should be totally banned for this. And Gta. And Elder scrolls. And Dexter? No, Maybe TV and Psp? And the Pc's?.. forget it.. just keep the children in check damn it..
The day an actual video game character comes out of the tv and kills someone, you have my permission to ban and kill it...Well only that particular game.
Blaming a video game for such a tragedy is just sad and pathetic. And such a thing just diverts blame from the real issues and causes here.
But this is not the first instance this has happened nor will it be the last.
I have Batman on my facebook page, does this mean when I get laid I should thank Christian Bale?
Imagine the look on the girls face when you two finish and she finds you at the side of the bed with eyes closed thanking an actor.
Hey, I'm from Brazil. And this kind of 'news show' is far from being considered something to be taken seriously (still, their news anchor think we all do). In fact, the audience has reached the amount it has today due to a sketch in a comedy show, playing around with their violent-focused approach with no real knowledge about it most of the times. (Some people here say this kind of news show makes your tv bleed, heh)
Now, this case is being treated with more attention by other broadcasters, which considers the game only to take the responsibility off of it later by an especialist; a psycologist of some kind. The buzz mostly has been on how dumb this guy was for blaming a video-game. They don't say 'dumb' but, c'mon, we can read between the lines.
I have read somewhere that the kid was talking about being an assassin, hitman actually. From what I can see, the kid was role playing and took it too far. His suicide was reality catching up. Tragic, but not the video game's fault, especially when Assassin's Creed honors order and heroism in a sense.
To be honest, most video games seem to be about saving people and helping the greater good.
That's just sad! It's not like a Call of Duty player goes out and starts spraying people with a automatic or something. It's Assassin Creed were talking about here, what was that kid thinking? Definitely a psychopathic game freak.
I don't even care anymore (about the video game blaming). It's a given and will always happen. Just ignore those idiots.
Stay your blade from the flesh of an innocent

The goal of the Assassins was to ensure peace in all things. The Assassins believed that political assassinations and the death of the corrupt would bring peace and a true sense of security to the common people. Slaying innocents and civilian bystanders who did not need to die could spread strife and discord, in addition to ruining the name of the Assassin Order itself.

So in actuality, the games tell you NOT to kill innocent people.
Maybe the parents were corrupt cops and the kid is the only who knew about it and decided to do what ezio would have done.(This is a joke)

O___O
"Nothing is true; everything is permitted"
What a terrible thing. It's just so sad, all around.
As for blaming a video game, this is just media pushing a story. I wouldn't give it much notice unless the government in Brazil was taking the idea seriously, in which case -- make a lot of noise and ensure the real issue like mental health is taken seriously.
there was just another extensive report on this story on Fantastico tonight in Brazil where they showed loss of footage of the game suggesting it was all but responsible. this does matter because games do get banned or censored (eg saints row 4 in Australia) preventing other mentally stable people from enjoying these games, which they have every right to do. it takes profits away from the game companies who put in a lot of effort making these games but more importantly as others have said, detracts from the real cause of the problems this child had and other children maybe experiencing if people focus primarily on games and not the fact that one report in the daily mail said "he rarely went outside" . these things will happen again if people don't pay attention to the real issues with young people

Huh... Sorry, man I don't understand your post very well, at least the first paragraph.
Who cares that the game is getting blamed. It's a damn game.
The attention here should be on the ones murdered.
This reminds me of the report about a little boy who found a gun in his house and shot his grandmother with it. They blamed Call of Duty...
dO.ob
In Assassins Creed 3 you lose if you kill ordinary people. The kid clearly has mental issues if he killed his whole family, the media always finds new ways to piss me off.
@biteme_fanboy: Point is, the game got blamed for the kids actions.
