Brutality in my eyes. How I know, because my stomach turned. It was an old women, a police officer should have sufficient training to deal with that.

What people don't understand is that a 80 year old woman can shoot someone just as quick as someone else half her age. If you noticed, the officer asked the lady multiple times to put down the gun to which she didn't comply and she also resisted when the officer attempted to take the firearm away from the her before taking her to the ground. Its easy to be a armchair quarterback when your not in that situation at that moment and only have seconds to make a decision.

The woman had a weapon. "beating up on an old woman"? The shooter of the video sounds like an idiot.

Can we get some background on why the woman had the knife and why the police were called?

My apologies. Regardless of the type of weapon she had she could of easily stabbed the officer. Like I said before, it's easy to judge when you are not in that situation. She didn't continue to beat the lady she took her to the ground to disable the threat.

The lady was walking past her the police woman. The police woman had already got her arm that had the knife, she could clearly over power the lady and take it off of her but she then sprung her to the floor. For all we know, that lady may be dead from her rash actions.

@supreme marvel: if you have ever been in a knife fight you would know that just because you have someones arm doesn't mean that the threat is gone. I understand that she was a elderly woman but that doesn't mean she's not a threat. Why was the woman in the middle of the parking lot with a knife and why didnt she drop it when she was clearly told multiple times to drop it.

Actually, we have little to no way of knowing. The person holding the camera had it jumping all over the place at the exact point at which the incident happened, and only the camera person's word as to what happened. I was a correction officer for five years, and learned quickly that elderly, feeble looking inmates are every bit as capable of seriously harming, if not killing you as any other type of inmate. I can NOT say the officer didn't use excessive force because we couldn't SEE what happened. So while my emotions would tend to sympathize with the elderly woman, we don't really KNOW what happened or if the officer acted appropriately or not. Again, just my two cents.

@comicon1234: She was 87 years old as the guy said. Maybe? There could have been multiply reasons. Being hard of hearing spring to mind. Being where she was, alzheimer's disease? Many reasons that we might not be able to think of. I'm sure the police woman had kevlar on. I see no treat from a women of that age, with a walking stick barely moving.

Within moments the women had her arm. She could have simply took the knife off her then avoiding what happened. Police are there to calm things down and then take action as a last resort. Depending on the situation. The situation didn't call for her to do that.

Change the situation. What if the police officer approached her grandmother who also had alzheimer's disease. Do you think she would have done the actions she did against her own relative? No. She would have tried to get the knife from her without hurting her.

@Supreme Marvel: Probably true. However...A. She'd have KNOWN her grandmother and her grandmother's condition. B. Simply "taking a knife away" from anyone regardless of age or "seeming" infirmity (yes it ended up that she was exactly what she appeared to be, but the officer could NOT have known that ) is a riskier proposition than (it seems) you think it is. Conversely, it is VERY possible the officer over reacted and DID use excessive force, I'm simply saying the video does not clearly show a compelling case one way or another.

It's not justice, and it's not exactly police brutality either. I call it sort of the in between, more excessive then it should have been, but it's not complete police brutality.
