Jackie Chan retires from action movies

The 58-year-old actor said he felt “really, really tired” after decades of pushing his body to the limit.

Speaking in Cannes, Chan said that his latest Hollywood outing, Chinese Zodiac, would be the last time audiences see him in a leading action role.

“This is my last action film,” he said. “I tell you, I’m not young any more. I’m really, really tired.

“And the world is too violent right now. It’s a dilemma - I like action but I don’t like violence.”

Chan has been talking of retirement for the past couple of years but said today that this time he really means it.

@cyberninja: I agree, and at least we can still look at all the movies that he has already done in the past. He was a great action movie star!

A younger me would have cared.

Still, I saw Rush Hour roughly seven million times when I was a kid. Thanks, Jackie.

This and the whip-slinging, hair manipulating, generally quite hot white haired witch were the only reasons to watch Forbidden Kingdom, imo. However, I feel his best fights were the ones where he was younger. Case in point...

Thanks for the memories, Mr Chan!

I have to say though, I thought it was just making stunts.

I think it's time for him to retire, too. His last movies were terrible IMO. I grew up with his old eastern flicks like Drunken Master, Snake in Eagle's Shadow, Young Master or Fearless Hyena. And his later films never elated me like that ones. Especially the Rush Hour series were big time crap.

Thanks Jackie for giving us hours of joy and fun (even you'll never read this).

Love Jackie, good heart, funny guy and reminds me of dad. Glad he isn't leaving cinema for good.

Thanks for all the memories. You also deserve a rest from long ago but it only makes it sweeter now. Thank you Mr. Chan.

Best fight Jackie had was definitely that fight against those two guys on the rooftops in "Who am I?"

Jackie Chan is the Bruce Lee of our time. Without a shadow of a doubt he deserves it. I think I'll go watch Drunken Master now :D

He will comeback, probably just to do American family films where he doesn't have to do much...
