but why do some viners write their username after each of their posts? I've been thinking about it for some time now (because this is the kind of question that boggles my mind) and enough is enough: I need to know why this phenomenon occurs. Is it like a signature so people know you truly believe in your post? Or is it so your name sticks in peoples minds? Whatever it is, tell me and I will be at peace.
It's been on my mind for some time now...
@epictayman: I don't do it on every post, that would be ridiculous.
Both a signature and makes you more noticeable than other viners.
This. Some users have a good one, some have weird ones.
Both a signature and makes you more noticeable than other viners.
It's f*ckin dumb. For people who are attention-starved.
AfricanWilds.
lol
All of us should do it.
And we should start with a "Hi" or something equivalent.
It's much more polite.
But this is internet and we are lazy.
In some forums it's more usual than others.
Here, it's usually associated with people that respect a minimum of rigor for each one of their comments. Very rare, and yes, other people tend to notice it because they are consistent.
@nighthunder: Funny enough I actually do have a valid reason.
While this is correct:
Both a signature and makes you more noticeable than other viners.
it goes a bit deeper than that. I explained it in another thread, so I suppose I'll just repost that here.
This metaphor might be a bit outdated, but I'm going to do it anyway.
Have you ever written a letter before? I know that it's an archaic form of communication, but it's one that I personally find to be both personal and convenient. Maybe you've mailed a birthday card? You get the point.
Anyway, when you write a letter and mail it, your name, address, etc. are all on the envelope, so everybody who sees it knows who you are.
But most people, despite the fact that the recipient knows who the letter is from, still sign their name at the bottom of the page, usually following something along the lines of "From", or "With Love", etc.
Why do they do that? Well, formality is one thing. But personally, I think it goes a little deeper than that.
I think it's because the person signing the letter is taking ownership of the letter.
It's the writer's way of saying "I wrote this, it's from me, and I take full responsibility of everything that's written on it." Whether it be a letter of love, discontent, information, or a death threat, the writer is telling the recipient that he is the one who wrote it, and he meant every bit of what he wrote.
Well, for me personally, it's the same thing.
When I put Jmarshmallow, it's because I'm saying that I take full responsibility of everything I posted. They're my words, and I stand behind them fully.
Maybe it seems silly to you, maybe it doesn't. But regardless, there's my reasoning, take it or leave it.
Oh yeah, look at me, I'm deep.

I think it's silly.. But whatever, if you want to go out of your way to type some kind of signature then have at it.
Do your thing man. PEOPLES CHAMP IS OFFICIALLY OUT.
@jmarshmallow: You're so perfect.
Jdeathstroker
That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard! Your username is already right above the comment. It's just redundant! Idiotic.
