I'm talking about high school/ college wrestling, not pro wrestling. Many people call it gay. I would like to know why. I personally disagree. I am in ninth grade this year and in the winter I decided to give it a try. I loved it. My freinds, however, mocked me for it. Every time I mentioned it, one of my freinds would say "So how do you like rolling on the ground with other sweaty men in tights?" I wanted to know if I am the only one who does not believe wrestling is "gay." I believe it is the hardest sport out there and many people are too busy calling it "gay" To actually try it and see how awesome it is.

No. Of course not. It might appear to some people as that way because it requires close contact and sprawls that require to get close and in the process, appears to be, in an uncomfortable..er..position. But it's a major aspect in MMA.

Yes. But they act as though they can kick anyone's ass and that I'm just a weak wimp. Well, I do wrestling. One of my freinds actually said he was tough since he played drums in a band which he said "is a workout for your entire body." (Though he has been in Mosh pits)
I wrestled in High School and for two years in college. It isn't gay and in fact that take that stuff really seriously. I once was at a regional tournament where a guy was disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct because he had a boner sticking out of his wrestling gear after the first couple minutes.

Hell no man. I wrestled in Highschool and a lot of people tried to give me crap about it to, including my friends. So I told a couple of my friends who played football and basketball and soccer to come to a wrestling practice. Guess what? They couldnt take it. The soccer player didnt expects so much running, the basketball player didnt expect so much conditioning, the football player didnt expect so much physicality. Wrestling is the toughest sport out there.
@riri4life: he means actual wrestling, not professional which (even though there is much more male on male contact) is FAR less gay than pro wrestling I think it's because it's a sport and not a steriod fueled soap opera
If your asking if there's any type of innuendo in wrestling itself, or even more, does it feed an inherent sexual design in male viewers from a psychological...

Hell no!!!!!!...........As an ex amateur wrestler and two time state champ, the ones who think this couldn't and wouldn't go head to head with any wrestler. I played football, joined the army and was AIRBORNE, wrestled as a amateur for 6 years and boxed Golden gloves and also took Kempo Karate. Wrestling (amatuer) was the hardest thing I ever participated in of the group. If you think it's gay challenge one of us, or look at MMA and it's foundation in wrestling, or work out with any high school or college wrestling team, you will puke or quit.................Gay my @ss! .............................................get with a wrestler in combat..............................and see what skill is!

My bad...........................And I apologize if I was wrong........but wrestling Is serious to those of us who lost weight and put in weekends and sweat and was the least respected sport on campus, but put the most work in, with no professional career to be had. WE do it out of love for the sport.

That happened to someone the year before I started wrestling. I dont know the details but apparently it was during the last tournament at our school and nobody realized it. We only realized it was on the mat mid way this year.

Hell yeah. After wrestling I could never understand why some people would complain about how hard it is to lose weight and watch your diet. I lost 20 pounds in about a month, the healthy way. I went about 2 years without eating fast food when I was in highschool, it just became natural, even outside of wrestling season.
