Is world of Warcraft really addicting or is it just bs that a lot of people like to say? I've been wanting to play it, it looks fun but I don't know. I wanna hear viners opinions
Is WOW addicting?
@albusan: what do you mean?
@xxedward_kenwayxx: from my original post?
Is World of Warcraft addicting? By the literal definition, no. Cocaine is addicting, for example, because your body craves it, but World of Warcraft isn't.
Is it fun? Absolutely. You'll want to gain one more level, clear one more dungeon, obtain one more piece of loot, push yourself a little more before you finish. World of Warcraft is a ten year old game, yet it's been the highest grossing game of all time and the reigning #1 MMORPG, that's pretty damn impressive for a game that's 10 years old. Most games don't even last 6 months.
@xxedward_kenwayxx You can create a free trial and play up to level 20 (with plenty of other restrictions bundled up together), but see how it goes. If you like it then you can purchase the Battle Chest and WoD and play ($15 a month).
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
@mysticmedivh: what is wod?

Warlords of Draenor, the latest expansion.
@mysticmedivh: you still play world of Warcraft?
@mysticmedivh: you still play world of Warcraft?
Yes.
After a fashion. It just become part of your daily routine thanks to guilds, needing to improve, show up to pvp and do raids.
@mysticmedivh: it must be really fun if people are still playing after 10 years

No doubt.
Its a fun game, but it also becomes a massive time sink, you find yourself wanting to get just one more level, or one more bit of gear before you go outside/ go to sleep/ whatever.
Its just like other games in that respect, the only thing is they keep adding content to keep it fresh- unlike your normal game where there's an ending.
Take that as a good or bad thing, I played for years until I'd had enough, now there's no way I'd go back again. You may try it and like it, like @mysticmedivh said you can get the free trial and see for yourself.

Other than a free trial, there are two other options.
- PTR World of Warcraft (Public Test Realms)
- Private Servers
My name is Hayden and im WoWcoholic. I have not played since a month before cata was released. Thanks to the 12 step chew program im better now
I can't play it. I can control myself for a month or so then my 13 year old self takes over and I'm gaming all night.
I grow up with the rts series and i have such a great love for warcraft. I mis my troll shaman.
I had been playing since beta...03-04. Good times.
My characters may not be as leveled as most WoW players these days, but I'm addicted to its lore for some reason.
And yes, the game is addicting.
It's one of those games that you either really, really like or really dislike while it's difficult to be in between.
If you want to get a cheaper taste of what it's slightly like, try out some Free to play MMORPGS like Star Wars:The Old Republic, Lord of the Rings etc. They pretty much use the same formula. Although, they're not the exact same as wow, they're close enough to get a taste of whether you'd like it or not before investing too much.
Technically, anything has the potential to be addicting.
Apparently it is addictive but much like gambling it affects people differently, you crave the rewards as mundane as they may be. It's the enjoyment of a computer game leveling mechanic turned into an addiction.
It can also become addictive the same way facebook/twitter becomes addictive, you log on because you feel a social obligation.
World of Warcraft's popularity has seeped into popular culture in many forms and has been known to be addicting. But it is definitely worth playing Wow in 2021 to see what the early days of Shadowlands are like as the Horde and Alliance both usher in a new era for the iconic MMO. Blizzard is clearly hoping Shadowlands can help bring about another WoW renaissance and things are off to a strong start. Or you can also play wow classic, it is easier that wow retail.
Started playing WoW in 2010 shortly after cata was relesead. played it for so much just got burnt out on it. cancelled my subscription couple of weeks ago.
